Portal 2
Anyone got this game?
I got it as a Preorder on Steam and after it been released early, and played it... I really liked it! It took me almost over 4 hours to complete the Single Player Story mode. I really liked the Storyline, Good Sense of Humor, and Gameplay. Really Enjoyable, IMHO.

Waiting a couple months for the inevitable 75% off sale.
Re: Portal 2
I'm going to try to make a friend get it, since all I have is a netbook.

Re: Portal 2
I got it, 'bout 10 hours in and just got to Chapter 9 - dunno how you could finish the single player in four hours.

I just beat it, lots of fun.
There were several puzzles where I was like, hmm I can't figure this out, and just when you are wanting to leave it be for a while, it dawns on you.

Re: Portal 2
I worked some magic using a walmart price match and a rebate card and got a copy for $11.
Finished it in about 5-6 hours, definitely more difficult than the original. Honestly I wasn't expecting much from a sequel but I was pleasantly surprised, I'd say it is about as good as the original. I'm looking forward to people making creative use of the various new elements in custom maps. I think the potential for custom user maps greatly exceeds the value of the built in campaign.
My only note about the finale:
The sky is NOT the limit!

I really liked it - seemed more exhaustive and a complete game then the first one did.
I smiled on your comment about the finale. It was funny because I was like, hmm, I guess I'll try this, and it worked.

Re: Portal 2
I really gotta hand it to Valve for that bit since I didn't even think about it, I just shot the portal off naturally the moment I saw it. I can see a bit of game design went into it though, first there are the hints they drop in the tapes earlier and then they actually take control of the camera to get you pointed that way which is something they hardly ever do. So really afterwards you realize they threw in a lot of pretty unsubtle direction and hints to get that to work, but you don't notice when it is actually happening because it blended so well with the moment.Thenior wrote:I smiled on your comment about the finale. That's the bit of fridge logic I figured out afterwards anyway, I'll have to do the commentary track later to get the full story on it.

Re: Portal 2
I finished it and I'm waiting for the editor now (and playing coop with Xaihyv).
Comprehensive review :
I think it was as good as the original but for different reasons than the original. Definitely more complex, I really like the new elements but I think they could have been implemented a little better - they kind of distract the focus of the game from the main portal mechanic. The gels were my favourite.
The soundtrack is nice (reminiscent of Tron Legacy) but a lot of the time they play one song way too much.
I actually found it easier than the first game, I finished this one but I'm still trying to get to GLaDOS in the original.
My favourite part was after 'The Fall', going up through the old test chambers. And the ending was awesome.
So generally - it had some 'way better than the original' parts and some 'way worse than the original' parts. The end product being that they cancel out and it's as good as the original.
EDIT: Just found out you can use the Alien Swarm SDK to build maps for Portal 2.
So I don't have to wait.

Re: Portal 2
I just started working through it, but haven't had time to do a long stint yet. So far, much better than the first one and trickier. Lots of nice new additional toys to play with as well. I'm pleased so far. Just got my new RAT 7 mouse going (birthday pres), so I'm going to wade back into Aperture Labs today.

Re: Portal 2
As soon as I finished it I wanted to play through again.
It was my brother's first steam game and he was exactly the same.
We're going through coop mode now... slowly. And playing through singleplayer again.
