If Osama Bin Laden is killed...

Post by Nightshade »

This story popped up on NDTV (New Delhi Television) on April 25 supposedly:

'Nuclear hellstorm' if bin Laden is caught or killed: Al-Qaida

http://www.ndtv.com/article/world/nucle ... ida-101330
A senior Al-Qaida commander has claimed that the terror group has stashed away a nuclear bomb in Europe which will be detonated if bin Laden is ever caught or assassinated, according to new top secret files made public by whistleblower website WikiLeaks.
Why did this news article appear just days before the raid that killed Bin Laden?

Interesting times indeed.

I doubt it.

It appears the source of the threat was KSM (Khalid Sheik Mohammed, planner of 911) who has been in US custody several years.

Funny thing is most nuclear bombs actually have a pretty limited shelf life requiring frequent maintenance/replacement of the nuclear material in order to remain functional. So assuming AQ had one from a common design they would have used it already since if they just sat on it as a threat for several years it wouldn't detonate anymore after that (at best it would be a small scale dirty bomb by then).

In fact the shelf life of some nuclear weapons is as little as 9 months, short enough that any attempt by a terrorist organization to use them would have to be considerably rushed.

plus I don't think AQ would have needed a reason to use a Nuke "IF" they had one
