Gonna shave my head!
Even though I'm female, I've decided I'm going to shave off all my hair! I just got through cleaning out of my bathroom drain THE BIGGEST, GROSSEST, SLIMIEST, HAIRBALL in history and it was all from ME! Horrid!
I go to brush my teeth this morning and the water backs up in the sink. Dammit, I've got work to do! So I think, simple, rip a couple of things apart to clean it out, I've done that before, hair always gets caught in the mechanism. Weeeeeell, there was hair in the trap mechanism, the trap itself, the cleanout and still no good flow. I say, well sh*t, I've got to break out the big plumbing snake. Not what I wanted to do right then, but I didn't want to push the pain until later or have to call a plumber. So down the cleanout I go with that thing and lo and behold, I hook a huge wad of hair (which looks suspiciously like the biggest drowned rat in history) comes up from 3 feet down that had lodged in the next bend of the pipe. I figure it was 16 years worth! What an effing mess! Black, stinky crap all over under the sink! Just nasty! This was not a good morning at all!
Even though I make sure to clean out any hair from the sink before I wash it out, some hair still gets down the drain. That's not counting the shower! God knows what's down there! I don't wanna know. I've got real fine hair, not too long, and it's loves to get caught on every little bump in the pipes, so even if I'm careful, some of it still gets down there to cause havoc years down the road. WHAT A PAIN IN THE ...............! The only solution I've come up with is to shave it all off! No more problem, ya think?

I keep trying to talk my wife into shaving her head.
She says she won't do it because she has weird bumps on her scalp from slamming her head into propellers. They seem to get in the way and hurt when you head butt them.
Her hair gets everywhere... I haven't had to dig any big hair balls out yet, but it's only a matter of time.
You get like +15 votes from me to actually do it.

Re: Gonna shave my head!
I currently have shoulder-length+ hair, but I've shaved my head in the past, too.
Really, it's the roughly same amount of hair going down the drain every day either way (think about it, you'll see why), minus whatever comes out on brushes.
In my experience, the major difference is maintenance. Keeping a nicely shaved head is a *pain*!

Why not?
I've seen it look attractive on women before. Besides no one will question you when you are rocking out to Minor Threat and DK. ;-)

I can't believe the three people above me are actually taking this seriously. Sorry about your drain situation. Acid drain cleaners are supposed to be able to burn up hair in drains. You do want to make sure there is some flow when you use a chemical drain cleaner, because you need to be able to flush it through after it's done its work. If there's no flow you risk having a strong acid just sit and eat away at your pipes.

why did i just get the image of sinead o'connor?
Re: Gonna shave my head!
Although a guy, this is one of the reasons why I went from hair past my shoulders to periodic buzz cuts. I take a number 6 blade to it about 3 or 4 times a year, so no real maintenance, especially when I pay someone else to do it. Also, my hair will probably start falling out one of these days, so it's good preparation.

I never said that I thought she was really going to do it. I did my best to egg her on into doing it, though.

Yes, I know tc wasn't seriously considering it.Sergeant Thorne wrote:I can't believe the three people above me are actually taking this seriously. Sorry about your drain situation.
My post was just a couple of observations on the topic.

Re: Gonna shave my head!
Naaaa Foil. How about this one. A little sexier.
How do you know I'm not really tempted Snoopy and Sergeant Thorne? IF I did it, I would consider maybe getting a buzz cut, leaving about a half inch long crop of hair, but it would probably make me look like an old dyke that stuck her finger in a light socket or something. That's my only problem with it done, getting mistaken for a guy. My hair is almost all gray, fine and straw-like anyway. I wouldn't miss dealing with it if I could get away with hacking it off.
I wish women could look good and not male-like with really short hair. Some women can pull it off, I don't think I can. My facial structure is too German looking, wide and round, not thin and petite. You guys have it lucky. If I was a guy, I would keep my hair close cropped. Long, thin, gray hair is a PAIN! Besides, I have alopecia starting up thanks to menopause and it's slowing vanishing anyway. That'll solve the problem I guess!
My husbands hair is too short and thick to clog our drains, but since I do the house maintenance, I get the plumber duty. It's my hair after all! I thought about the drain cleaner ST, but I was worried about it eating the plastic pipes. Our house has a little sewer drainage problem courtesy of the builder. We've got a full basement, so when the idiot contractor backfilled around the foundation, he didn't bother to compact it properly, and we weren't here when he did it. So guess what? The soil has been settling for all these years and it's pulled the sewer line down in one spot slightly, so there's a constant plug of water sitting in that low spot. No free drainage to get rid of the drain cleaner. It would end up there and eat that section of pipe. Already had to fix my main water line twice and have the back patio ripped up that settled too. That was 2 years ago and I'm still looking at gravel back there. I thought about having the sewer line dug up and repositioned and have the soil compacted properly, but I just don't have the money or desire to redo the lousy original work right now.

I think you should do it or maybe a half or 1 guard on clippers.
Re: Gonna shave my head!
But before you do, you should probably make sure your husband is OK with the idea.

Yea, he should have the final say. After all, he has to look at me most of the time! But he actually might let me try it. The worst that would happen is that I have to wear a hat until it grows out again.Jeff250 wrote:But before you do, you should probably make sure your husband is OK with the idea.
