quite a shock....
.....here I was, planning, as I do every year, to make my pledge to the local folks involved in the American Cancer Society's Relay for Life and I saw the official logo:
note the crescent and star! Oh my Gawd, those pesky Muslims have infiltrated the ACS! In fact, a glance at the ACS logo shows a menacing sword, probably symbolic of chopping off the heads of infidels. Can Sharia law be far behind? What is next, Mosques hosting Cub Scout troops? Perhaps, an upsurge in the sales of Camel cigarettes? Oh, the humanity and the ongoing demise of Western Christian Culture!

You won't miss it till it is gone...and then it'll be too late, slick. (Not the 'christian' part...but the western secular society part.)Oh, the humanity and the ongoing demise of Western Christian Culture!

frankly, over my 56 years on this Earth, far more blatant assaults on 'western secular society' have come from Christian wingnuts than from any other group.

You won't have to wait long to see more assaults.

The thing I always think of when people remark on a crescent shape is the flag of South Carolina. I wonder if any groups down there went on a witch-hunt to change it.

Re: quite a shock....
Thunder Bunny, you are clearly scared of Muslims.
Personally, I think Islamic art is very nice. I don't know very much about the whole Muslim religion, but the few Muslim friends I've had are very nice, even to me.
I think you've got a few ideas and are always seeking confirmation, which can mislead.
If Russia's movements during the Cold War were driven by fear of what Americans were saying and doing, why would any other group be different?
Cheer up. Here's an octopus:

Fear of Muslims comes in many forms.
The “the please don’t offend them” kind is the most common, as far as I can tell.

And I'm sure many of them are saying the exact same thing at us.

I would be curious to know just how many Muslims are worried about getting attacked if they offended the west, or some other religion.
Now you can inform me.

For them to worry about that would be illogical and paranoid.

this is the quote to which Issac replied, to the effect that Muslims probably view their relationship with Westerners the same way. A perfectly logical, and likely very true conclusion. His response was scorned by TB as 'uninformed'. Language constraints and all in mind, let me be the first to say I smell BS. And, bigoted, small-minded BS at that.

nuanced. I have no problem with that concept, in fact I am all for the ongoing existence of Israel, so long as they share the regional resources wisely and not subjugate the prior inhabitants.

Kinda hard to share when Hamas is constantly throwing missiles at your children. I suspect Israel would share once a real peace was achieved. Every time the Jews went along with a peace plan, gave territory back as in the 1990's, all that happened was the 2nd intifada. Israel has returned enough and concessions have gotten them zip zero nada. Hamas is the entity subjugating it's own citizens and Obama's statement of Israel returning to the 1967 boarders is just another sop to appease the Palestinians and throw the Jews under the bus. But then Obama is skilled at that...just ask his former religious mentor.callmeslick wrote:ThunderBunny wrote:And your opinion of Christians and Jews that support the existence of Israel is...what?Language constraints and all in mind, let me be the first to say I smell BS. You're forgetting that every sitting President since the 1970s has said the same thing.
Fear is the engine that destroys freedom.
Re: quite a shock....
You're also forgetting that Israel is continually engaging in some truly self-defeating behavior in the form of pursuing expanded settlements in Palestinian territory.

wow, that's an understatement. Add in military harassment of Arabs living anywhere near said expanded settlements and it goes beyond self-defeating. More on the order of perpetuating and justifying hatred.
