Free burner software

Post by thewolfe »

Saw CDBurnerXP on the free software page.

Running Win 7 64 BIT with only one CD/DVD ROM. Is CDBurnerXP still a good choice.

It works just fine in windows 7 x64, although currently I'm using ImgBurn for all my projects.

burning iso ?

Post by thewolfe »

Once I have an ISO burned to a disk can I copy (burn) that to another disk or do I have to use an ISO burn program again to make another disk? I'm using Active@ISO burner

Save the ISO to the hard drive and burn it as many times as you want (ImgBurn was originally designed for that type of operation).

An ISO is like a ZIP of the CD/DVD and when you burn it using the ISO burner, it will burn it with the proper folder structure. Not sure if you knew this or not. Just an FYI.

ISO burn

Post by thewolfe »

Thought I knew what I was doing but....I have a CD in my computer that will run MS System Sweeper so I copied contents to a folder on my desktop, it has files and folders in it.

I also have saved a file with .ISO as the extension. It seems that I can use either the one ISO file to run the program or I can use the CD with the files and folders for MS S.S.

Is the ISO file necessary?

I really, REALLY, enjoy Infrarecorder which works VERY well with XP, Vista, Win7 32bit and 64bit.

Small, easy, capable, and free.

An ISO is an image of a DVD/CD. It can't be run. You need to burn it for it to work.

You can, however, mount an ISO to a virtual drive, using something like Daemon Tools. Or you can use a tool like 7 zip to extract the contents (mentioned earlier)

An ISO( disc image ) is a virtual digital copy of a disc( CD/DVD ) that is stored on your computer as a single file which you can use to make copies of or to mount using disc image program without requiring you to insert the actual disc constantly.

Great for making multiple copies of a disc for distribution without creating a temp image every time. Backing up corporate discs when doing desktop support intraoffice or creating a bootable thumbdrive to do the same.

When prompted by any image/iso creation software to fix errors it is wise to leave the errors in the image to maintain compliance with the original.

Only time you will have an issue is if you are trying to make a backup of a Macintosh disc on a windows computer. The image program will strip the second file structure off the disc which in turn will make it fail on an apple(PPC). There are ways to prevent this but it is time consuming
