Issue with Google
Ok, so I use Firefox 5.0. When i type something in the google toolbar at the top right, it displays my results but it fails to show me the regular menus where I can select web, maps, video, etc. I have to go to google.com to get those. Theis didn't happen when i first upgraded my PC but don't remember when it started.

Re: Issue with Google
Not sure what you're describing, but it sounds to me like you had (previously) the Google Toolbar (yuk, IMO) and now that you've upgraded to FF 5 that toolbar is no longer showing or is disabled (version you have not FF 5 compatible?).
Assuming it's the Google Toolbar you're missing...
1. From the View menu (if View menu not showing, press Alt to temporarily re-activate the Main Menu) then check the Toolbars to see if the Google Toolbar is present but not showing.
2. If Google Toolbar not in the available Toolbars, Check your add-ons to see if it's in there but disabled.

Re: Issue with Google
Check the pic.
1) is the google search engine built into FF5.
2) is the search results using that toolbar.
3) is the search results when I goto http://www.google.com and use it form there. Notice the Web, Images, Video words, that is what is missing when I use #1.

Re: Issue with Google
Hmmm, perhaps a list of your installed browser add-ons would help.
Re: Issue with Google
Yeah, the Google logo in #2 looks quite amateurish, like not something that Google or Mozilla would ever officially put out. Also, CSE == custom search.

Re: Issue with Google
The Google logo is a custom made script for Stylish or Greasemonkey. Some scripts have been known to cause conflicts with other add-ons and a toolbar. If he does have one of them installed.

Re: Issue with Google
The immediately apparent things I would check for would be if Adblock Plus or AVG have any exceptions for google.com and to ensure they also apply to google.ca. Just looking from my browser the easylist filter set for Adblock Plus allows all those features on both google.com and google.ca. I don't have AVG installed to check against. In order to narrow it down quickly you could try disabling them one at a time and reloading the browser to see if one of them does it.

Re: Issue with Google
Merlin I guess you can stop worrying about the toolbar. It is being discontinued for FireFox.

Re: Issue with Google
Well that sucks. I always preferred to use that as I didnt' have to type it in the address bar.TigerRaptorFX wrote:Merlin I guess you can stop worrying about the toolbar. It is being discontinued for FireFox.

Which is a separate add-on, and not the search field.
Re: Issue with Google
I'm kind of amazed that people use those toolbars myself.

Re: Issue with Google
When I installed FF, the toolbar was already there. It's not a separate one just at the end of the address bar.

Re: Issue with Google
Thats a generic web-search bar, and not maintained by Google at all. you can add different search engines to it. It just defaults to google.CDN_Merlin wrote:When I installed FF, the toolbar was already there. It's not a separate one just at the end of the address bar.
