How Palin might win

This opinion from a local retired Oregon 4th District Representative, Jim Weaver, a Democrat. Makes sense with all the political infighting and polarization in Washington and our country. The Republican-controlled House may end up deciding the election if it comes down to a split national vote. The perfect storm of circumstances coming together, all due to the current ho hum choices the Republicans have thrown in the ring so far, and Obama looking weak after 4 years. Palin the independent swoops in and cleans up. The 3 way election spoiler.

Whoever stands up publicly and starts railing against the real threats we face is who I would vote for. It's not likely to happen, but where in the hell are they at? Someone who would get up and tell the absolute truth and point those things out publicly. Not someone who's trying to win an election so they can "get in there too". It doesn't take a politician to change things. It takes the truth, and if someone would just fall on his sword and shout those things from the rooftop, things WOULD change. I'm not looking for a president, congressman or senator. I'm looking for a spokesperson. It would wake the sleeping giant again. I lay that charge squarely on journalists shoulders, after all, that is the nature of their job. To seek truth and proclaim it. Convince the general public of what's going on and the ones in charge might reconsider their course. Hell, convince enough and they would have too.

Oh, I'm with you there. Palin, however, is not one of those principled saviors you talk about. She's only out for herself, money and power. Same old politics.

I do think that Americans are starting to wake up, but will it be in time to make those for-the-better fundamental changes happen? Look what happened the last time we voted for someone who promised us he'd "change" things?

I do think that Americans are starting to wake up, but will it be in time to make those for-the-better fundamental changes happen? Look what happened the last time we voted for someone who promised us he'd "change" things?

I know you hate her and have your claws out for her etc. but actually she is the last one who fits the description "same old politics" of all the politicians in the race. She really was an average Joe kind of public servant right up until she and McCain lost the bid for the WhiteHouse. All the rest are typical politicians by comparison.
Not trying to convince you she's right for the job or meets any of your other criteria but as far as outsiders go she's the only one in the race...if she is even in the race.

The only way she could win is if she cheated, like Bush did.

Unfortunately there are many Americans who think they can vote their way out of poverty, oppression (out of a wet paper bag) and many Americans who think they can vote their way into liberty and into security from highly fabricated threats.

These people tend to blame a specific precedent for all our problems, instead of the presidency, or they'll blame the Demoncats if they're Reptilican or vice versa, instead of focusing on Congress and politicians.

She may be an "Average Joe", but she sure couldn't wait to end her job as Gov of Alaska, just so she could go after the bigger prize, Pres., and make oodles of money on book and movie deals before getting there. She's no different than any other politician out there making money and seeking power. I see no altruistic motivation on her part to better the country.
