Monitor problem

Working on a Gateway ATXSTF MNT 700C, running XP and it has a Gateway FPD1810 monitor. And has a Radeon 9000 Series graphic card.

The sys tray has An ATI Catalyst control center. Only showing a pug and play monitor.

The monitor sometimes shows log-on screen and then goes into "power saving mode" which you can't get out of. Hard reboot.

If the monitor does stay on it almost always prompts to "Active Desktop Recovery screen". If I do that it screen goes to sleep have to hard reboot.

I have changed the connection from PC to monitor. No joy.

Download drivers? Have orig ATI Catalyst CD.

Also screen is freezing. Created a Sys restore and click on "Create" and screen froze. Ctrl, Alt, Delete will not work either.

New message - VPU Recover has reset your graphics accelerator as it was no longer responding to graphics driver commands.

Sounds like a problem with the PC, not with the monitor. (You could always check by trying a different monitor.)

I don't have any monitors with that connection. Haven't even seen the cable before. It's not a 15 pin that I'm use to seeing.

It is a 24 pin DVI-D cable, the vast majority of flat panel monitors made in the last 8 years should have a connection for one.

Not sure what you mean. I can connect the computer I'm working on to it's monitor but the computer doesn't have a 15 pin and I don't have a 24 pin on any of my computer.

Got a bunch of malware/viruses of off it but now it won't even come up to the login screen and the monitor button is yellow. I can turn the monitor on and off and it will go green for a minute and then back to yellow.

Heh, backup then reinstall. Update and image. Anything more that that is a damn full time job.

I hear ya. I just want to make sure I don't have the same problem because it's hardware instead of software.

Ran a fan on card with side of of computer, no help.

Can I try an old graphics card to see if it still does the same thing?

Just did, know waiting to see if monitor shuts off. Now ill have to wait until tomorrow . let you know then. thanks.

If the monitor is going into power-save mode (amber) and then when you resume it displays a green flashing light instead of the usual solid green = monitor hardware issue

Blown or Damaged Capacitors on the LCD Power-Board

if the monitor is still functioning, the easy check is just pull the power cord off the back of the monitor wait 5 minutes and plug it back in, if it comes on.... CAPS... or if you go into a 3Dgame and it shuts down

A relatively easy and inexpensive fix.. if you know your way around a soldering iron and contact Scott over at lcdalternatives he has a Listing for an FPD1830 not the FPD1810 so you will have to tell him the exact caps you need, it might even be the same board as the FPD1830

Heck, you can get a fairly decent 19" LCD for $100 these days.

Capacitor fix is under $15 and takes about 10 minutes

Well, don't know if I have it but it's been running for about and hour w/o freezing. I did two things. I turned off the screen saver and I went into "Power Options". They were set to Max Battery (it's a desktop). I changed them to Home/Office Desk with Never on Monitor, HD and Standby. The Max battery setting had Standby after 20 min.

Now I'm a just a wait'n and a watch'n.

Not the first time I've seen screen savers and the like mess up a computer. Seems to have fixed the problem.
