Jim, from your comment I conclude there is a *new* DBB coming. Good news. I hope it includes a few *new* mods too. I've grown bored of having to suffer some of these fools that for as much as I can figure out have never played Descent (any installment), never made it through highschool, never read a newspaper, are little more than anti-Bush, anti-Christian, anti-conservative and anti-American parrots who NEVER back their sh!t up, who foster more flamewars than they control and generally just seem to be hanging around frisking themselves for their shrunken balls and remembering the good old days when they could accurately be described as male. If you intend the DBB to live a longer life, time to pull a few ticks, imo, and give the jobs to folks a tad more enthusiastic and knowledgeable about the Descent Community. One would hope some in the current crop (not all, by any means) would have gotten a clue by this point that they are not liked, needed, wanted, appreciated or respected and they should have moved on a long, long time ago. But, alas, apparently they have no where else to go except pornographic anime sites.

Yeah, back on the 14th of this month sure is weeks ago. Just for that, you now have your very own special rank.

Goob: Nobody can access passwords but you since they're stored in a hash on the server. The only thing I can do is reset it to something else. Send me an e-mail or IM.

Yeah, what you see there is what Tetrad and I have been working on for a while now. Though we couldn't have done it without Nitro's help since he provided the webspace.
EDIT: And I know that somebody is going to ask where the NHB is without reading the contents of the Cafe. The NHB is there, its just that you can't see it unless you have permission. The only way you can get access is through either the admin staff or the group moderator for that usergroup (I created a usergroup so it'll be quicker to take care of should none of the admins be available.) There are a couple of things that I've also added for the admins/moderators, but I can't discuss in public.
If the staff has any questions, feel free to send me an e-mail or bug me over ICQ/AIM.

I respectfully disagree. You have to take into consideration though that the avatar I'm using on there is 150x150. phpBB doesn't check offsite linked avatar against size or dimensions, so it lets you do that.
Besides, ideally the avatars will be stored locally, and can be size checked. So you won't have people linking 100k+ animated gifs which, IMO, is a lot worse.

Okay I changed my avatar to something that's 100x100.
Check here for what a 100x100 looks like. Not too big at all, I think. That, plus a ~10k size limit would make things a lot better.

The size of the board shouldnt be a problem X, I've heard of people converting almost half a million posts, and once you get the converter running it pretty much does everything automatically.
Send me a zip file with the entire DBB in it, and I could probably have a phpBB database ready in a couple days.
Even if you dont want all the topics and posts, you can convert JUST the users, would save some trouble. You cannot change someones post count in phpBB like you can in UBB, its recorded in the database and not very easy to get at.

I managed to talk MD into the converter, now I have to do it all over again...
The speed of the converter is reasonably good, it took me about 1 hour to convert 11,000 posts from the D3kBB, including the inital setup and double checking. The rate is about 300 posts per minute minimum if memory serves. The conversion does NOT have to take place on the server where the final BB is going, you can easly export the database and move it around from computer to computer with minimal changes.
I could demo a complete conversion in just a couple days, then all it takes is exporting the database with the database backup utility built in to phpbb, and restore the database at the destination with the database restore utility! Actually its better to run the conversion on a diffrent computer anyway, that way you convert the BB, install it on the final server, copy the database over and then just switch it right over, total downtime would be only seconds. Thats how I did the conversion for the D3kBB. The only things that have to be changed are some server address specific things that need match the new host. Or you could just use a hosts file to fool the BB into thinking its actually running on descentbb.net so even that wouldnt be nessasary.
I'm just presenting a alternative to having to keep this old UBB around and locked, the conversion is not a problem. I wouldnt be pushing for a converter if I didnt have a good experiance with it. Even if you dont want to convert the threads, you can still convert the users that way post counts are carried over to the new BB.

Jim, the hacks are UBB scripts. They won't even be touched by the convertor! All the convertor looks for is the individual users (which going by the time it took to convert the D3kBB, maybe a couple of minutes) and the individual threads (which MAY take a couple of hours, even on a BB of this size). Thats it. The hacks will remain over here, and we'll get a clean and stable BB.
The chances of the fubared hacks coming over are about as likely as a PC virus working on a Mac....
