“I believe that the insulting or mocking of others’ religious symbols, icons, prophets, etc. should not fall within the realm of free speech. Mocking people, insulting people, uh, I think, falls almost into the arena of um, libel.”
-Imam Feisal Rauf
So you better not dis Jesus or muhammed! (Well, they really don't care about Jesus so much.)
Is free speech supposed to die?
"Now we know the brazen truth. Rauf opened the Islamist playbook and removed any doubts about the true nature of the Islamist agenda. In short, while keeping up an ecumenical front, Rauf and other Islamists intend to openly use American laws to crush dissent, demanding our laws silence any criticism, concerns, or questions about the Islamist threat."
Duper wrote:TB, I think not so much to die, but I think that bringing it back to original intent and what the language and context it's actually talking about.
"Freedom of speech" was never meant to give you license to say anything you want. That's just stupid.
Isn't freedom of speech concerned specifically with speech that is political in nature? To prevent legal repercussions from people in authority because someone doesn't like what you're saying? The right to speak against Islam should be considered a religious freedom, I think. This guy is a joke. He's just using general terms to seek to prevent people from being able to speak against him and his "God".
Wouldn't it only be libelous if he can prove Allah is real and is the only god?
By asking us to accept his concern that it is libel our courts would have to act under the assumption that Allah is real and is all that.
He should take his thin skin to some sharia compliant place or suck it up and learn to be an american where mocking peoples religion is not only accepted but is a livelihood for some people!
