A Quick Rant, if I may.....

Post by callmeslick »

OK, I've watched the early weeks of football season, and thus, a LOT of beer advertising. Two sets of ads have me bugged, and here's my rant:

The Bud Light commercials--WTF is up with a series suggesting that it is un-manly for some guy in the group NOT to bring/consume Bud Light, risking his 'man-card'? Seriously, folks, when has it not been an automatic,
permanent revokation of one's man-card to consume ANY Light Beer? Really, the stuff is all watery piss, and unless you have the Body Mass Index of a walrus or a sumo wrestler there is NO excuse for a real man to consume a Light Beer.

Speaking of Light Beers, the topper might be the Coors Light commercial, you know, the one with the 'Bar Exam'. Let's examine this one. First, the guy gets a call from a very attractive young woman, interested in spending the evening. He tells her, 'Sorry, I'm studying for the Bar Exam'. Said exam consists of this nitwit trying to figure out what the temperature-coded bars on the beer bottle mean. Then, to show his true lack of interest in the opposite sex, the ad shows him walking through the bar, where two women inquire, "are you a lawyer?". Here, given the opportunity to do as any red-blooded male would do, and lie like a rug in order to get laid, he laughs and says No. Really? Does anyone wish to emulate this putz? Not to even get into the fact that the beer in question sells itself on it's ability to get cold. Isn't that the refrigerator's job?

Rant off, feel free to discuss. I am off to Virginia for several days in hope of landing an enormous Red Drum, or at least some bluefish and sharks. :D

Why don't you put down your whiskey sour and sob into a billowy sheet? It's a commercial, I actually to think those ones are funny. Beer is great but it's too unhealthy for me personally.

It's not like the non-lite version of Budweiser tastes any better.

I love commercials like that. Mainly because they give me something to laugh at when they claim i'm not manly enough if I don't consume their product.

Yeah, I kinda like the new shaving razor and android phone commercials, but, seriously, the crap they show, the magical way they make the product, is ridiculous. They show things like a half hour of a robot fight or pipelines joining beams of light at a core. The end result is either a phone or a razor. Cool, but that's stupid. I wonder if some idiot saw this and went, "Oh yes. good phone. Look at how they make it."

You can't skip commercials on live TV, unfortunately. One trick it to DVR it and sit down to watch about a half hour after it starts, that way you catch up right around the end of the show. For sporting events, you have to wait until about the middle of half time if you're not going to be watching the half time show.

I don't know. The "can't be colder than ice cube" ones are pretty silly, too. The ones where the guy is reminded about the beer being the second unmanly thing done that day is a bit annoying for me. I guess they think that the average male isn't secure in his masculinity these days.

Yep. I've quit watching live TV, except for NFL/NBA games. Everything else is either streamed from Netflix or DVR'd to watch when it's convenient.

Actually, I think those are pretty funny. Ice Cube seems like he's having fun with it.
