Public Release on the web (or, you can now play it)
Well, Today is the day that Defender is being released!
First things first, get it from the sourceforge page
Right, now onto the more boring things.
There are two parts two this game:
The container, an .exe and necessary .dll's for windows users to play the game. Once you have downloaded this once, the chance is that you will never need to download it again.
The other part is the data. This is the information files for the game, containing textures, sounds, maps and other such goodness. If you have blender then you will only need to download this, but if you don't want to get blender then you will have to get the container.
Note that Blender is cross-platform, so if you don't run windows you can still play it through blender.
So what is actually done so far?
Well, you can fly, and shoot, and die. There are powerups and different weapons. It can be controlled by mouse or by keyboard. There is even a high scores system.
This is a very early release, and I'm not too sure if I should have released it at this stage. Because of this there are literally millions of bugs. If you find any, then post them at the defender forums.
If you are wondering this is copy paste from the forums, so you will probably know most of that. So, I'll post some more pictures for you.....

Re: Public Release on the web (or, you can now play it)
I downloaded the game files from Sourceforge, but I don't have (and can't install) Blender, so I need the exe and the dlls.
I haven't been able to find them on the Sourceforge site. Could you be so obliging as to link to them in this thread? Please and thank you.
I'm seriously considering volunteering to do the OST for Defender, if you don't have a composer yet. Even if you'd just like remixes of the D1 and D2 music I can do that. However, I'd like to see the project myself before I commit myself to helping with it -- just because I'm working on so many other peoples' projects right now (and getting paid for at least one of them).
Seeing it will also be helpful in determining what kind of OST I'd like to do -- especially since I can have Foobar2000 playing my music in the background before it's even implemented.

http://sourceforge.net/projects/defende ... Container/
It is there.
Extract the data into the container so you have the file defender.blend in the same folder as defender.exe
And I would love to have a person doing a soundtrack for me, I don't have anyone as of yet.

Any reason no-one here has yet reported back after trying it? Is the exe not working or something?
Eh?

Re: Public Release on the web (or, you can now play it)
Right now I'm writing up a huge lab report for microbiology (and it's already late -- I had to ask for an extension because I couldn't do it fast enough). I've tried it (but I need some time to write up something comprehensive enough to actually (hopefully) be helpful to you.
But for now, the simplest way I can put my thoughts is:
It's a good start. It still has a long way to go to be a good game though. But you're on the right track.

I can accept that. I'm in the middle of exams and such myself.
Oh yes, it has a long way to go.
I'm glad though that it's working. I haven't had the chance to test the .exe myself you see.
