Recover history?

A friend had Verizon work on his computer and wiped out his history on his Vista using I.E. Any way to recover it?

Deleted all the cache, history, restore points......thought I'd try to restore to recover history but no such luck.

Only reason someone would delete all that is if the system had some malware stuck on it, its gone forever.

I think Verizon was trying to speed up his computer.
