Angelfish!

Post by snoopy »

Hey guys, I just had some angel fish come in on Tuesday, and I figured that I'd share a few pictures. They are dime-nickle size.

I've been wanting an aquarium for awhile now. Would be cool as hell to have a living ecosystem right in your house.

Neat-looking fish.

Those "aquascapes" are pretty incredible. I bet there's good money in that for anyone with the artistic ability to do it.

I turned my 29 gallon aquarium into an orchid house. Put a big stick-on reptile heater on the bottom glass to heat the area during the day, hung a plant light above and I've got 2 of them flowering now. They're kind of entrancing. Tough little boogers to raise though and I like the challenge.

I might just re-set up my 55 gal. I miss my fishies too. :)

You do know angelfish are vicious predators right?
Make sure you don't have any smaller or weaker fish nearby. My friend has some funny (but kind of tragic) stories about what happened when he had an aquarium with angelfish and a bunch of others (including some small sharks -- apparently angelfish beat sharks :O).

I have a desert-flavoured terrarium in my bedroom. And yes there is something in it, too.

Yes. Generally Cichlids are aggressive. I did my homework... there are shrimp, snails, and angels in the tank and the shrimp will be dinner if they're not careful. Oh, and two bristlenose plecos, but they do well with angels.

1. When they are spawning, angels will protect their eggs from anyone and anything that comes near, regardless of size.
2. Generally, angels will try to eat anything that they think will fit in their mouth.

Right now the angels are young and small, so they aren't close to spawning yet. They are also small enough that the biggest of my shrimp are actually bigger than the fish. That will change with time, so the shrimp will have to get good at hiding. They have lots of available hiding places in the tank.

Right now I have 10 fish in the tank. This is way too much for full-grown adults, but is okay for now. I'll be finding new homes for the least favorite fish as time passes, and eventually plan to wind up with four, two pairs.
