Record sound from computer to audacity
Record sound from computer to audacity
I have an audio file I want to play on my computer and record it in audacity. I can't figure out the "mic" setting so audacity will "hear" the audio file I'm playing and record it.

Try this: http://wiki.audacityteam.org/wiki/Recor ... e_computer
Otherwise, if you're willing to give up a little bit of fidelity, you can buy a male-male cable, and loop your speaker jack back into your microphone jack.
**edit**
Generally, I would not recommend this method, however. If the file is an audio file, there are decent chances that audacity can open it. If not, there are even better chances that ffmpeg can open it and convert it to a raw PCM file for you that audacity can open.

Re: Record sound from computer to audacity
The only way I know how to do it is through the Pulse Audio mixer. Check this out:

You basically install the Pulse mixer, choose it as a device in Audacity, then go back to the Pulse mixer and enable monitoring, or something like that. You'll figure it out. I did and I'm practically a Linux idiot (worse than a Linux newb).
EDIT: Also here....

Protip: if OS isn't mentioned, assume it's windows.
Re: Record sound from computer to audacity
Changed "Edit > Preferences: Devices or Device Toolbar in the current Beta version). " and it works. It's just audio and not music so that will work.
I didn't want to be tied to my computer so now I can record and upload it to my iPod/iPad.
Thanks.

Re: Record sound from computer to audacity
Was there any reason you couldn't send the file in question to your ipad using itunes?
Re: Record sound from computer to audacity
Yep! Cost to download but could play it for free.
