Paranoid on New Year's
I thought I was being paranoid about the certain idiot out of 1,000 people out celebrating New Year's by shooting his gun in the air at midnight- but I suppose I'm not.

It would really suck to be the victim of someone else's lower IQ.
(Though I'm sure it happens in other ways all over the world many times a day.)

Idiots were doing the same thing here and I was a little paranoid myself, then I loaded 5 sabot slugs in my shotgun and rocked the neighborhood. LOL, pointed at the ground of course
Re: Paranoid on New Year's
Amish girl was killed while driving her buggy home by a guy who shot his black powder rifle in the air to clear it. Ball came down and hit her in the head. Police said he was more than a mile away. Speak about odds......

Probably safe to assume larger caliber bullets will be increasingly dangerous, and probably the only "safe" gun to fire towards the sky is a nurf gun...

Re: Paranoid on New Year's
Apparently the geniuses who pull this stunt never watched Mythbusters. If bullets maintain their spin and don't just flop over at the peak of their trajectory, they can easily do serious damage on the way back down.

Re: Paranoid on New Year's
That was a pretty informative episode. Glad they did it. I never would have guessed that a bullet would keep most of it's speed when it followed a long, arcing trajectory. I thought air resistance would've impacted the speed a lot more.Top Gun wrote:Apparently the geniuses who pull this stunt never watched Mythbusters. Re: Paranoid on New Year's
Yeah, the key seemed to be having the bullet keep spinning. Since terminal velocity is a function of surface area (and something called the drag coefficient, which is determined by an object's shape), having the bullet's tip always point forwards presents the least amount of area, so its velocity remains substantially higher than a bullet that's "tumbling" sideways.

Was the the episode where Mythbusters shot the cannon ball into someones house. Speak about geniuses.Top Gun wrote:Apparently the geniuses who pull this stunt never watched Mythbusters.

The law of conservation of mass implies that mass cannot be created or destroyed, although it may be rearranged in space and changed into different types of particles.
One of most basic laws of science is the Law of the Conservation of Energy. Energy cannot be created or destroyed; it can only be changed from one form to another.

No, that one hasn't been aired yet. Probably won't be either with that kind of screwup. Edit: It's not going to be shown. Rats!

Just matters where you live. 6 of us shot off a bunch of guns in the air at new years, but I live in the sticks. I wouldn't recommend it in a city
