In that case, I guess some sort of a closeup (SEM?) of a metal surface.

I'll guess that the material is steel, that what's in view is a martensitic cross-section of a break where the material failed in sheer.

Well Ferno is the closest and Isaac had the best reply and came close also. Combine Ferno's and Isaac's answers and you have it. What it is, is the unwashed back window of the cap on my pick-up.
