getting Descent textures

Post by mspc »

I'm trying to acquire the Descent textures in a form openable by an image viewing program. I have the full version of Descent, I just don't know in what file the textures are located or how I would extract them. Can anyone help? Thx

I know there is a tool to extract the images from the hog and a converter tool to convert them to tga but for the life of me I can not remember what the names are.

For Descent I think the tool that let you extract textures, sounds, animations and other resources was called DTX (DTX2 for Descent 2).

There are some hog tools for Descent 3 that would let you extract the textures, but IIRC they are stored in OGF format so it also needs the additional step of running them through OGFTool to convert them to TGA.

I had them somewhere (but don't anymore). I can't remember where I got them from though. I should warn you about how low res they are, 128x128 I think. I think a friend still has them somewhere, so I can ask him if you want.

D2X-XL has high-res textures available for download from their site, which, if you ask, should be able to use.
Eh?
