USB ports not working

Post by thewolfe »

I hooked up an eMachine T2042 to ck some e-mails I thought might have viruses. Non of the USB ports work. I am using the PS2 mouse and keyboard. I have deleted the USBs in the Device Mgr and they re-installed but no joy.

Anything else to try. It's no big deal cause it's only a test machine but always trying to learn.

Solved! USB ports not working

Post by thewolfe »

Just found a post from 2006. I was trying to fix the USB ports then. Got a lot of good advice that didn't worked. Since then my friend bought a new computer and I've had this in my garage for testing and just pulled it out a couple of days ago.

Not worth any more effort, but thanks for the posts.

Are they physcially connected to the motherboard? My wife's company removes the connector cables to the peripheral USB ports for all their PCs. If it came from an office somewhere, that might be the case.

Ck'd it out and everything is on one unit, USB, video, cat 5...............It's served it's purpose (checking out an e-mail) virus) so it's back at home in the garage until next time.

Thanks for the post.

In an office environment the USB card reader/port combo bay will be disconnected from the motherboard usb header during an operating system install. Obvious reasons the install routine marks them as drives and sequences the physical hard drive as f: g: h: (depending on the memory card slots) For the location of the o/s data and trashes the whole install, and editing the registry is too time consuming. So they pull the header install o/s as c: and 75% chance forget to reconnect the from bay header until a complaint arises. If they image systems remotely they will never reconnect the header

I seem to have a better workout dodging your stupidity than attempting to grasp the weight of your intelligence.
