Is it possible to add a partition to a drive with data without erasing said data? If so, what software would I use?

Partition Magic can do that. But be warned that you should always backup your data first.

Aye, I have resized partitons with partition magic before, aggreed it is a wise idea to backup your data first.

try knoppix, a full free linux with tons of tools on a boot-cd, loading only in ram:

burn the image on cd and boot from it.
(works in english too)
once you booted from cd, the program qtparted is your friend.

are you talking resizing a partition, resizing and adding a new partition or adding a new partition to a already partitioned drive with extra unpartitioned space available?

Resize the existing partition and then create a whole new partition, so that there are two.
Preferably without having to erase any data. And I'd definitely make a backup.

Mepis Linux also has QTPartEd.
Another great freeware choice is BootItNG. Just make sure you say do
not want to install BootItNG when you boot from floppy and let it go into Maintainance Mode instead. From there, you can easily resize and set up partitions.

Partition Magic can be an iffy friend at times. Maybe that's just the versions I've used, I dunno...

ive used partition magic, with no problems at all. but if you have doubts, go ahead and use another product.
Preferably without having to erase any data. And I'd definitely make a backup.
