The random cool things at E3 thread
1) Guild Wars, the free Diablo-esque MMO brought to you buy some ex-Blizzard employees is now live for their "E3 for Everyone" campaign. They have a rather unique streaming client which you can download here and play.
2) Nintendo unveils it's Dual Screen system, called (appropriately enough) the DS. Read more about it here. high res picture of Metroid DS The short: Two screens, 4 face buttons, 2 shoulder buttons (possibly), and the bottom screen is touch-sensitive and includes a stylus. Also two ports: one for GBA games and one for smaller DS cartridges. Bluetooth wireless connectivity. 3D that surpasses the Nintendo 64.
3) Sony PSP was unveiled. Get pics here. Very wide screen. Uses both memory sticks and "universial media discs". Pretty poor battery life apparently.
4) Not really E3 news, but the new Thief game is now gold.
More tomorrow.

Soo.... I'm pretty sure that the RPG fanatics that have posted in this topic already have/had intense optimism about FFXII already, because there's been tons of stories written about it already, lots of trailers, lots of plot revelations, and I have come to understand that it will be a very awesome game.... But what I'd like to know is about Xenosaga Episode II: Jenseits von Gut und Bose. I can't seem to find any special plotline/hands-on descriptions of it yet, and I'm anticipating the release of this game MUCH more than the release of FFXII (partly because the story of Xenosaga isn't done yet....) BTW... I'm on poor 56k/computer, and I'm far too lazy to take the hours it would take to troll all the boards to come up with any info. I also thus don't have time to download trailers, which reminds me that I need to go troll around at my friend's house and d/l on his computer .

My blunder. I'm really looking forward to checking out Thief 3; I had a lot of fun with the Thief 2 demo (putting out lamps with water arrows, using gas arrows on guards, etc). It's too bad that it's centered around stealing; I wish they could have come up with a cleaner premise for such a cool old-age game.
*edit* - And let's not forget the rope arrows!

You end up being more of an anti-hero actually. Theif 1 is more of an Indiana Jones adventure. Have you every played the full version?
Word.you guys have bad taste in games.
I'll post a link to the best of my ~300mb of pics eventually.
Coolest things for me were:
The Blizzard trailers, especially the one for StarCraft Ghost. I have some clips of that thing, and it ROCKS.
Half-Life 2 demo was incredible.
The Skyline GTR parked in the Namco booth(that no one was really paying attention to).
Thief 3 does look(and play) well, and I can't wait to get the full version on the 26th.
The Nintendo DS looks AWESOME, especially with the backwards-compatibility.
And that's all I can think of right now, since I just got home after a 7.5 hour drive.

Brothers in Arms is an interesting game that seemed to have generated far less press than it should have. Okay, it is a WW2 shooter. But the interesting thing is that it's a squad-based tactical realistic WW2 shooter. The guys at Gearbox (yes, I know, them) have this fairly high ranking military guy doing all the storyline and such, and I got to see a bit of it today. It looks really, really good. Two things of note that stand out: "suppression icons" over enemy's heads to see if they're a threat or not (i.e. if it's red they're firing at you, and if it's empty they're not going to risk sticking their head out and shoot at you), as well as the single-button context sensitive command system. If you've played RTS's, imagine having one of your two squads selected and right clicking on something on the screen and issuing orders depending on what you've selected.
And it's also not a sequel.
