Afraid of Spiders?

Post by woodchip »

Warning! Warning! Do not read the following if even the thought of a spider sneaking up on you sends tremors of paralyzing fear down your spine!

You've been warned:

"Jintu Gogoi's neighbourhood in Sadiya, Upper Assam, is no longer friendly. Over two weeks ago, an army of eight-legged freaks invaded it. It all happened in the evening on May 8. Most of the inhabitants of Chaulkhowa Nagaon village had been to a Bihu function. When the programme drew to a close, swarms of spiders suddenly descended from nowhere and started biting the people. The festive mood soon turned into one of panic with people bumping into each other and tripping over empty benches in their frantic bid to egress. "

So the arachnophobia list just got a little bigger.

I actually like spiders on the other hand.

Oh CRAP! Spiders! EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEK!

I haaaaaaate spiders. Damn near had a heart attack one day when I opened the door to the basement stairwell. There one was, parked right at my eye level on the wall big as you please, a giant house spider the size of a fifty cent piece! Had to have the hubby kill it. "cringe". I don't like squishing something that's big enough to go "pop" when you do it.

You do know…spiders help control the other lousy pests you have around the house.

Spiders aren't that bad, at least most of them don't actively try to kill you... or suck your blood... There are plenty of worse arthropods to kill.

Deploying cute spiders to thread, to offset spider public relations problems.

I realize that, but tell that detail to my brain whenever I encounter a BIG spider....IN THE HOUSE! I almost hate the webbing more though. It sticks to you and pops and crackles when you break it. "shiver"

We have mud wasps here that love a particular type of bright green spider. They paralyze them and stuff them into their mud nests for the little wasp pupae to snack on when they hatch from their eggs. Creepy way to die, even for a spider.

Now snakes, they don't bother me at all. Go figure.

The little snakes like garters are awesome (and the legless lizards :D). But I hate the big ones.
I had a lizard until a few months ago.

Our garter snakes are pretty good sized. One about 2 feet long was sunning itself by one of my hedges the other day. Even though they don't bite, I don't like to pick one of them up because they will exude a noxious stink in self-defense.

We also have Bull Snakes too. They can get up to 6 feet long. I tried to pick one up that was about 3 feet long, just to move it's stupid butt out of the road before some car ran over it, and it swung around and bit me. The thanks I get for trying to help.
