FilePlanet Woes

Post by Nexus_One »

I remember when you could just click on a download and it would automaitcally either put in line, or start the download. Now FilePlanet wants to install some kind of bullsh!t on my puter in order to download, and the downloads don't even work anymore. WTF happened to the good old days?

Anyone else have this problem? The same thing happened with the Tribes full game download, I couldn't get it because the installer or whatever it was wouldn't work on my puter. Now all FilePlanet downloads are like that, and I can't get sh!t from the website. Any ideas or suggestions?

I haven't used Fileplanet since Counterstrike 1.2 :P

It's a POS, and any game worth it's CD's have in-game updates, so almost no games require out-side patch downloads so I've been able to avoid it.

But stinkin far cry requires an outside patch, so i downloaded it from 3dgamers, or 3ddownloads or some site like that.

Down with gayspy!

I'm talking about just getting game trailers, and movies. Even that seems to require a download of some type beyond the file itself.

I think fileplanet is good... And yeas, they are trying this new thing where you download this client that downloads the files better. Like, you click on the fileplanet link and it brings up the client and it is very nice. I think it supports resume downloads if you get shat off the internet. it also tells you how much time it will take (including waiting in line) which is vary nise! I wish all DLs with FP used this great tool! I love it so much I would ★■◆● it up the butt! :D

you need to get a gaycrap id in order to get the cdkey for tribes 2.

even if you, say, went out and bought CGM that has Tribes 1 & 2 on that issues dvd.

Fileplanet needs to die.

In order to avoid the need to die, they seriously should consider dropping the lines, dropping the gaycrap id requirement, and switching all non-subscriber downloads to bittorrent.

hell, GSN/IGN just need to burn.

I've tried two different BitTorrent clients and both have a seriously adverse effect on my computer: my computer begins to freeze incrementally after about 20-25 minutes of downloading.. I get blue screens.. on XP!

What bothers me more than FilePlanet itself is the strangely high number of game companies that insist on using FilePlanet as a near-exclusive method of distributing trailers, movies, and demos to the public. Way to alienate your audience, folks.

It's cheaper to have Fileplanet do it, hosting your own ★■◆● gets expensive. They do it for free in exchange for exclusive coverage for some period of time, and the number of passive, non pissed off subscribers out numbers the people who hate it because it's cool to "fight the power" ;)

I like Fileplanet, I paid my 60 bucks for the year, and now I don't have to worry about it.

Wow, lazy aren't we? With a little hunting, you are usually able to find files on FilePlanet elsewhere.

I'd rather "fight the man" than give him $60 a year.

Very lazy.

Fighting the man, at least when the "man" is Gamespy, is a little like tilting at windmills. Not worth the frustration. I just gave up a pint a month to be able to "afford" it. It's not like they are charging 30 or 50 a month. It's 5 bucks a month. To ease frustration. My time is easily worth 5 bucks a month. and now, I am a subscriber, no lines for me and I get all that "exclusive" content if I want it :)

Who is worse off?

Oh yeah, and Soylent Green is people ;)

Game companies who want to reach more people and is duped by GSI into exclusives.

Ubi used to soley use FP for their patches. people got pissed and now they use other sites in additon too FP to get their patches out.

ANd there was the fiasco with the Tribes releases.

whats the point in signing up when I could go out and buy CGM and get it on disc?

Oh wait, you need to have GSI to a cd-key. thats for both the down and mag cover.

Thats right, the mag cover disc doesn't come with cd key.

Viviendi could've re-released it and made a bundle.

Heh, maybe the files on the FilePlanet index you can find elsewhere. Hosted sites seem to use a completely different area of FilePlanet that's a LOT more convenient...who's with me that the Hosted area of FP is the best part of it? ;)
