This is literally what i try (ineffectively) to steer every E&C thread i participate in into.
It's the only thing that matters, as without this mutual understanding - all converse is effectively pointless.

Things like this, are what we should be talking all about. It is what is important.

Then i occasionally come back and delusionally pretend things have changed (hahahaha), until the delusion can no longer be sustained.

Anyway, what roid said is the same reason I was absent from here (save the actual gameplay sections) for a few years, especially being uncomfortable around some people (Thorne, Spidey...) after getting on the wrong side of them in E&C. Then I realized that taking the measure of a person from political debates will always, inevitably, result in bad judgements -- because you're judging the debate, not the person. So I decided to avoid E&C so that I could see the people as people, not as participants in an ugly debate.

In layman's terms, these people are still nice and perfectly friendly, it's just very hard to see that when you're on the other side of a highly political debate.

When the time comes that everyone agrees on everything, the boredom will putrefy our brains and only the Google bot will be trolling the forums. Unless the Google bot becomes sentient, then the arguing will start all over again, with itself!

just things enough to convince eachother that it's worth chatting at all.
i hope this isn't too esoteric, but for me it's about exploring the commonalities, so we may more fully understand our differences (and vice versa too, i suppose).

Break things down into constituent parts, simplify, search for patterns, follow those leads, do it collectively - in parallel, then pool the resulting collective insight, and try to form a cohesive broadly-agreed-on narrative. Ultimately just a part of a greater search for truth and the nature thereof.

As far as i can tell most just couldn't give a ★■◆● about any of that ★■◆●, and they're here for something else, something that i find alien.
Hey we're all different. i just wish "an insatiable sense of curiosity, or a lack thereof" wasn't one of those differences.

Maybe I should rephrase what I said.
I realized that people like Thorne and Spidey are perfectly nice and friendly people, it's just really hard to see that in the middle of highly political debates, especially when you're on the other side.
