if your really into OC, i would get the 3770K instead of the S model

i just did a upgrade myself, from a eVGA p55 SLI > Asus Z77 SABERTOOTH and i5 750 > i7 3770K and ive never been happier in my life!!

one thing i noticed, your Mem, you WILL have to OC it to achieve the 1866 speeds. the 3770S supports 1333/1600 as a standard, and 1866 and on up with OC applied.

not really planning on OCing cause 3.1ghz x4 (x8 cause of HT) is pleanty fast for me because im moving from a AMD AM2 6000 64bit and 4gb of ram.

so my mem is a bit fast but that sould be ok right.

Save yourself $40 on the memory by getting this memory instead: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6820148544
I've built 7 systems recently with Crucial Ballistix Sport memory in it, and none of it has been bad, soundly defeating the several times I've used Corsair which has failed me more often than it has worked (eventually did work, but only after sometimes multiple RMAs). Also, it has no annoying gigantic and useless heat sinks and runs at the JDEC approved standard 1.5v.

And since the CPU heat sink Intel supplies is *sufficient* but nothing more, spend what you save on the memory on a better heat sink, like one of these: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6835103099 or http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6835186065

Also the 3770S is meant for low power use, it maintains 65 watts by lowering its clock speed to 3.1 GHz. Its generally worth the extra $30 to get the 3.5 GHz offered by the 3770K, even if you don't plan on overclocking, and the trade off is only an additional 12 watts.

I concur on the memory. Crucial is solid and has been my go-to for years.

The 8800s should work fine, it will kick them down into x8/x8 mode, but that shouldn't really hurt the performance any.

Actually if you aren't playing any recent games, you could skip installing the video cards entirely and just use the GPU that is integrated in the CPU, it should be good enough for most older games (other than crysis anyway). It wouldn't hurt to look at benchmarks of the Intel HD4000 in the games you play at any rate, or you could just use it as a stop-gap till you can afford a better card.

Oh no i will be gaming, i got to many Steam games that i can play to well and also i few new ideas for some Descent art that i have not done in years :)

but good i can just sli them for now to hold me over till i can get a better "one" later on and yes just one cause i dont think i will do sli again cause yes its cool and yes its help me get this far but at the time $700 for 2 vids is a bit of an ouch.

with that mem being so cheep im going to get another paire after a few checks so i can get up to 16gb.

but thank you all for helping looks like ill be placing my order after the wifes blessing on the final price. LOL

Yeah, I was never a fan of SLI, mostly because it was expensive and usually waiting a generation would get you a single card that was just as fast for less. Also SLI doesn't help any for improving the real responsiveness of games and actually makes them a little worse than a single card, so I didn't like that.

Nvidia did make a occasional use for old 8800 GT / 9800 GT video cards though: PhysX acceleration. It can add in some pretty nice eye candy in games that support it, although I'm pretty sure the 8800 GTS wasn't a G92 based part which unfortunately means they can't do it because they don't support the required instructions. :(

Yeah mine dont support the PX and boy does it cause hell when its installed.

when they 1st started to push that i spent weeks trying to figure out why my FPS drop and one of the cards was running so hard and hot so now i just dont choose to install it and also point it to the CPU.

Ace, the number of available PCIe lanes does not have to equal the number of available PCIe slots.

An x16 slot can electrically be limited to just x1 if the manufacturer is so inclined.
