talking to chairs....
....effective lead-in to most important speech of the campaign season? I don't think so, but you all might differ. Opinions?

From the quotes I saw, it just makes me feel sad for Eastwood. With that sort of rambling near-incoherence, I think the old guy's a few nuggets short of a Happy Meal these days.
Re: talking to chairs....
I found him very coherent. Then again I suppose there are those of you who are quick to demean a person because he doesn't think Obama is doing a good job. Now ask yourself, "Self, if Clint gave the same sort of speech at the DNC convention, would I think the same way?" Nope, as the liberal talking heads would all be saying what a amazing presentation. And just what part did you find in-coherent?

Re: talking to chairs....
Clint was fine. I'm really tired of these really nice pre-written speeches. Everyone bitching about Clint seems to really like these formulated speeches, politician only speak in these days. Clint was just saying whatever he wanted, so people actually listened. In contrast everyone that spoke sounded the same; drones reading what someone else wrote, painting verbal rainbows. No one can really listen to that crap.

I've always liked Clint, but he didn't seem to be on message. Was he giving Obama a hard time for not bringing the troops home from Afghanistan? I didn't really mind him, but someone please tell me, what was he talking about the rest of the time?

Re: talking to chairs....
He was playing to the crowd. He must feel the same way. Just talkin' down the opponent. Toward the end there I thought he was starting to say that we don't have to vote for Obama or Romney. Would have been nicer to see old Clint talk about his opinions on politics, but I guess he's backing the Republican racehorse.

Re: talking to chairs....
Unfortunately I have to agree (gah) with the lefties this time. Poor Clint looked 3,000 years old and came off as a doddering old man. He and his dignity would have been better served by sitting in the audience and giving the speakers a wink and a nod rather than actually appearing on stage. Were it 20 years ago, I'm sure his delivery and commentary would be biting- but it's 20 years too late for the guy.
Other than that, I think it was a great convention for the Anti-Obama crowd. This election isn't about Mitt...it's about getting rid of the abomination known as the Obama presidency.

I thought Clint was very funny, and it was all ad-lib apparently. He may be aging, but he can still put out a performance, even if he does talk to empty chairs.

telling commentary. Now, how did that work out for Kerry, Dole and a few others? Oh, CUDA, you can toss old Hank Williams, Jr. into the Nut Mix, as well. Bear in mind, this is a man speaking about his elected President, and further, lying through his teeth:
Hank Williams Jr. blasted Obama again, calling him Muslim. Hank Williams Jr. repeated his anti-Obama tirade at a concert in Texas on Sunday. Performing at the Stockyards Music Festival, the country singer went on an extended rant against the president.
"We’ve got a Muslim for a President who hates cowboys, hates cowgirls, hates fishing, hates farming, loves gays, and we hate him," Williams Jr. bellowed.
"Hate", such a lovely expression of Christian sentiment, dontcha think?

Yeah, ship 'em all to Texas, let 'em secede and wall off the place from the rest of us. Oh, and they can't remain connected to our power grid either.Top Gun wrote:What a **** piece of inbred trash. Anyone have any decent ideas for deporting rednecks en masse?

That almost doesn't sound too bad at this point. Hell, if it would mean that the majority of the remaining population accepted basic scientific fact, we'd probably be better off.

Well, if you're going to run with that idea, you better count in the whole slew of Southern States that wanted to secede during the Civil War.

You think the U.S. is protecting the folks in Texas from Mexico, Top Gun CobGobbler? I think your sentiment is at once naive and unfeeling. If I were a Texan and Texas seceded I would give the cartels good reason to stay in Mexico, period. I don't suppose some of the good folks down there would think too differently. Nice blanket sentiment, there. So Texas is full of rednecks and rednecks should be kicked out of our country. Did I miss anything?
Atheists aren't free from hypocrisy, they just aren't driven to it quite like people who try to be perfect while only human. It's hypocritical to accuse Christians of problems common to humanity.

Oops, called you Top Gun.
Well, you have a danger anytime there are organized groups going up against passive, disorganized society. The way I see it if the "cartels" tried to make inroads into Texas and take over, there would be some pissed off rednecks who are pretty good shots and pretty well armed who wouldn't stand for it. Who knows how that would go. I would root for the Texans.
There's reason to be afraid of any man who you're looking to push. If you run over enough metrosexuals you might forget that, but if you stumble into a real man's space it'll come back real quick, especially if he has the tools for the job.

I have the fact that, if you're going to put any stock whatsoever in a video that presents itself in that fashion, you really don't belong in the conversation in the first place.

Re: talking to chairs....
Clever.
Okay, you want a bit more? In the few minutes I was able to stomach while skipping through, I saw three supposed "renegade economists" touting some prescient theories that apparently only they were privy to, and then proceeding to sell their book that claims to do the same for the future. Nowhere in any of this did I see any references whatsoever to external sources verifying their claims, or academic journal articles, or anything of the sort. It's a freaking infomercial, flip. They're a couple of snake oil salesman trying to get you to buy into their irrational alarmist nonsense. I mean, are you really not able to discern that this is a terrible source of valid information?

We'll see .
EDIT: We must have watched 2 different videos. The one I saw was only 1 economist being interviewed, but he does have the distinction of being the ONLY one to predict the housing bubble BEFORE it happened. I'm not saying I believe anything he said, so calm down a bit, but nothing he said was lunacy either and quite possible. Taking precautions seems like a good idea to me, considering no one knows the future right?

Dude, that guy has been touting that theory, and his supposed 'credentials' in a series of videos going back 3 years now. First this implosion was to occur in 2011, then 2012, now 2013??? or whenever. It's not absolute BS, but merely a theory among theories presented in order to sucker rubes into buying a book and buying into an investment plan that will benefit the presenter. Lots of such silliness across the Net, with widely variant pitches.
