puzzling
a thought occurred around bedtime last night....if indeed, the coming election hinges on around 10 swing states, and the largest of those ten are in the Eastern time zone(Florida, NC, Virginia, Ohio), why the devil does Romney hit the stage around 10:30 PM EDT? Seriously, I would think you would wish to give your best speech(and a fun lead-in by Eastwood) at a time when potential voters are WATCHING. I think my wife and I are pretty typical of the demographic in play, and we were off to bed before Romney opened his mouth. I wonder if the same schedule will be in effect for Obama and the Dems next week......

Actually I wondered the same thing. I also wonder if the big 3 networks will give the DNC more coverage.

Re: puzzling
Maybe I'm confused, but it seemed that every network had complete coverage of the entire convention, what the hell you talking about woodie?

Re: puzzling
at this point in time NBC,ABC and CBS don't show anything from either convention except for the 10-11pm EDT hours. Frankly, why should they?
Virtually everyone can get the News Networks, which, as Cob points out, cover gavel to gavel.

Re: puzzling
no CUDA, I am not, but it was the GOP that let the networks get out of more extensive public service news coverage. Personally, I would love to see a return to the mandated level of public information of the past as a requirement for an FCC license.

Re: puzzling
If she didn't speak during the 10:00PM Eastern slot, she wasn't heard on the main networks. They're more concerned with ratings and dollars anyway. Conventions don't make them much money. The market has spoken.woodchip wrote:Did you see Ann Romneys speech on, oh say, NBC?
But what's really a riot is that Clint was given a choice spot in that critical 10:00PM slot right before Romney's speech, which then pushed that all important family video feature showcasing the nominee into the previous hour, the 9:00 to 10:00PM Eastern slot. So no one who watched the main networks saw that little important puff piece about Romney and his family. In essence, Clint kinda screwed Mitt with the prime time audience. On top of that, Mitt ran over with his speech because of Clint's overly long ad-lib.

If you want the electorate to be properly-informed, the last thing they should be watching is a political convention.woodchip wrote:Oh, I don't know...perhaps something stupid like to help inform the electorate.callmeslick wrote:at this point in time NBC,ABC and CBS don't show anything from either convention except for the 10-11pm EDT hours. Re: puzzling
Uhh yeah I was able to watch her speech in its entirety on MSNBC. It was simul-cast on Fox, Fox Business, CNN, and one other channel that I could see. So yeah woodchip, I was able to get as much as I could stomach.
Re: puzzling
Cob, while watching MSNBC did you happen to see any of the minority speakers:
"When popular Tea Party candidate Ted Cruz, the GOP nominee for Senate, took the stage, MSNBC cut away from the Republican National Convention and the Hispanic Republican from Texas’ speech.
MSNBC stayed on commercial through former Democratic Rep. Artur Davis’ speech, as well. Davis, who recently became a Republican, is black. Then, when Puerto Rican Governor Luis Fortuno’s wife Luce’ Vela Fortuño took the stage minutes later, MSNBC hosts Rachel Maddow and Chris Matthews opted to talk over the First Lady’s speech. And Nevada Gov. Brian Sandoval? Noticeably missing from MSNBC, too. Mia Love, a black candidate for Congress in Utah, was also ignored by MSNBC."
It would seem MSNBC selectively edited the convention so the liberal viewers wouldn't start thinking the GOP actually had minority leaders in it.

Re: puzzling
Every channel cut out time for their commentaries. I watched the New Mexico governor on MSNBC. A hispanic female, doesn't that count as multiple minorities right there? My question to you--do you ★■◆● about every little thing like this outside of this bb? You must be one miserable person to be around. I'm just saying..lighten up..you don't have to complain on every little single thing you can think of.

Re: puzzling
I think this guy puts it very well:
What's funny is that leftists think they appeal to everyone and that if anyone should object to ANYTHING they say- those objectors must be the loons or racist bigots of the world. Leftists themselves are actually projecting the vileness they bring onto those that oppose them.
They doth protest too much.
http://pjmedia.com/barryrubin/2012/09/0 ... -election/The information released about the Democratic National Convention seems to show it is designed to prove how radical the party is and to play to the most limited possible sector of the population. There will be hatred and vicious character assassination. Of all the imams that could have been chosen, one with a radical background was picked to lead services while—from what I’ve read—Catholics were almost deliberately dissed. This is a convention featuring Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid. There will be a lot of scary people and nasty rhetoric, sort of like a Keith Olbermann film festival. I estimate that two-thirds of the Democrats in Congress are really moderate, though they lack the courage to speak up. But will any of them be allowed to make any moderate statements that truly differ with the far-left line? No. Lots are staying away because they know this to be true; others will smile on the outside and be totally depressed knowing that the iceberg is on the way.

Re: puzzling
what's funny is someone so stupid as to think Mr. Rubin really has the first clue what the Democratic Convention will be like. More conservatives trying to define non-conservatives. When will some people start to think for themselves.......?

Re: puzzling
People need to start shouting these things from the rooftop. Keep confronting someone long enough and eventually you get through. People have to learn to make their own way. I think anytime my hip and back has come up in conversation the next question is if I'm on disability . I am for a fact physically disabled, but not to the point I can't take care of myself. When I need help I'll ask for it, but the general thought seems to be to try and ride on Uncle Sam's dime.
