can't reinstall IE9

Win 7 machine. IE9 was running slow and not loading some sites. FF is working great. So I tried to fix using Microsoft tool...no joy. Finally un-installed IE9 and am running IE8.

When I try to re-install I get the message "IE did not finish installing".

Downloaded the exe file for IE9 to the desktop...no joy.

I have tried in SafeMode...no joy.

One site said to try a "clean boot" but then warned against it.

IE 8 is working about the same as 9.

My two home pages come up immediately. Other sites just "spin" but don't load or may load in 3 or 4 minutes. And I have cleaned the cache and they still pop up immediately.

IE takes a long time to shut down also.

Also turned off anti-virus...no joy

Also restarted router...no joy

Also IE8 says "Internet | Protected mode on"



Any ideas?

Well I delete IE8 and IE9 installed but still very slow loading. I don't use it much but need to have it running so I can assist others. In fact, I was about to make a screenshot video about IE tabs when I discovered how slow it was.

Also disabled add-ons.

Back up documents and re-install the OS for a more snappy windows.

REBOOT >

Re-download IE 9 >

Re-Install IE 9

Got IE unistalled and re-installed but no joy as far as it loading any better.

My 2 home pages (google and dougsstuff) come up quickly. Norton.com loads immediately and the cnet and skype sites just keep spinning.

Weird, eyh? Or does that give any new ideas?

What happens if you run IE with all add-ons disabled? (Start ---> All Programs ---> Accessories ---> System Tools ---> "Internet Explorer (No Add-ons)").

Another thing to try is resetting all of IE's settings to default.

Nope, the sites still don't load and just keep spinning. I waited for 3 or 4 minutes and they're still spinning. File, Edit, View.....won't work. Pretty much freezes everything except the sites that are all ready up.

I can also open a new tabs and open Norton, Dougsstuff and Google while the others are still spinning.

What does the hosts file look like, and what do the IE proxy settings say?

Are the proxy setting under LAN?
