There exists a very real liberal black plantation where if you are black and don't toe the liberal mantra, you are villified and metaphorically have your toes chopped off. Stacy Dash just found out the truth.

Isn't this the same as the Mia Love thing (similarly-phrased racial attacks on a GOP candidate's Wiki page) last month?

It's certainly an example that racial junk/hate against the GOP exists (no surprise, racism has no political boundaries). However,it's quite a jump from seeing a few twitter or wiki posts to jump to the conclusion that there is some universal or widespread black culture which would attack someone who doesn't share a political view.

Woodchip, would you be similarly swayed by someone posting a bunch of racist facebook quotes targeted elsewhere (e.g. attacking a white guy for voting for Obama and calling him a traitor to the aryan race)?

Well Foil, to date I have not seen much of racist comments toward whites you proclaim they're voting for Obama. Not that I don't think there are some someplace. I'd be just as opposed to it though. And from what I saw there was more than just a few comments regarding the Stacey Dash post.

Incidentally those folks are also both idiots and assholes, judging from the content of their diatribes. It may be a legitimate point, but you'll have to narrow the field quite a bit based on that sampling. Incidentally, these are the kinds of folks who were persued for votes by the Democrats/Obama last time around, and are courted by way of legislated handouts ("Obama phones").

I would say that I expect most groups to tend to want their members to conform to certain standards considered characteristic of the group. So, I don't think that this type of thing is much different than, say, churches expecting their members to be respectable citizens.

I'm making a few jumps, though, and I've been struggling with exactly this recently due to some situations in my life:

1. There's an association between what I'm going to call "Urban African American Culture" and Democratic Political alignment. From what I observe, this rings true at a very high rate.
2. There's an association between African descent and said culture. From what I can tell, this is a bit of a jump. It may be true in many cases (especially in urban settings), but I don't think it holds true as often as my first jump.

I understand this backlash in that context.... a rejection of the Democratic party is interpreted as a rejection of the culture held by a large group of the African Americans in the country.


That's also where I see you analogy breaking down. I don't think there are perceived associations that can take you from the aryan race to a particular party. Now, a better analogy (and a reality) would be attacking a "Die Hard Redneck" for voting for Obama.... but see, there I only went from culture to party, and didn't take the extra race step.
