D1 briefing videos and audio files - where from?
I recently stumbled upon something I'd never imagined might exist; I found it all on descent2.com. I'm talking about the Descent 1 opening/closing videos that practically animate and voice the briefing text from the game with the same VAs from D2 and D3. I also found audio files in a HOG file that read out every robot and level briefing on top of a background canvas of sound.
Those files are probably meant to replace the original voiceless text briefings, but WHERE do they come from? I looked all over the web but found no answer. I'm assuming they might be from the Mac version since that also has a CD soundtrack, but can anyone confirm that?

I believe the majority of them came from the Playstation version: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Descent_%2 ... .281996.29

Thanks, that must be it.

Yep, the PS1 port of the game had cinematics that narrated most of the opening and ending sequences, as well as voice-overs for the robot info, which was kind of cool. Obviously that's the sort of thing that wouldn't exactly have fit on D1's original floppy disk release. What I always found interesting is that the PS1 version of D1 contained the original PC version's full levels, whereas the port of D2 (Descent: Maximum) had a completely-different set of levels, generally smaller in size but following the same design themes as the corresponding D2 levels. Maybe the designers realized after the original port that navigating overly-complex levels with a PS1 controller was somewhat trying.

I have the D1 animations. In fact, if there are any rare or unusual Descent I or II files you're looking for, I have them.

No thanks, I already have them. They can still be loaded from descent2.com. Good to know though

Yes, I'm aware they still had them. But I do mean I have _all_ rare and unusual Descent files and information.

I know those files. I used to think how to make them run on the PC, but unsuccessfully.

I am XXXL.
Indeed it is. There are two configs I have become comfortable with. One is a slightly modified default setup and the other is a weird setup I tried that requires the select button to bank, but allows easy trichording. It's not that bad. The main problem I have with playing it is the abysmal framerates.Top Gun wrote:Yep, the PS1 port of the game had cinematics that narrated most of the opening and ending sequences, as well as voice-overs for the robot info, which was kind of cool.
