Hi people, wanted to share a concern and say hi

Post by Will Robinson »

Hi boys and girls, I've missed you all a bit as a group of interesting people that i sort of know but haven't really missed the circular and redundant conversation that we all seemed to fall into so that's why I stayed gone when I bailed out of here.

I've enjoyed not spending time shouting about stuff on the interweb, since this was the only place I did that I've been free of it and better off for giving it up.

Not that any of that really matters but I guess I just want to put my sudden brief reappearance into context so you will know that this isn't my attempt to dive back in and stir he pot. I just want to warn you all about what I think might be about to happen.
I started to follow my old form and write out a long post explaining why I believe what I do but that was too much like the old days and if I invest that much substance into it I'd feel obligated to stick around and defend against some of the inevitable challenges that my comments will draw.
So instead I'm just going to tell you what I texted to my daughter who is living in a dorm at the University of South Carolina, she is a freshman there and about 3 hours from where we live. Being a protective kind of father it hit me like ton of bricks when I thought about this and so I had to warn her and I figured you guys might not have thought about it.

So here you go:

"Do me a favor and don't be anywhere punks on the street(driving or walking) can target you starting Tuesday evening through possibly the weekend. I think Romney is going to win and since the race pimps have created a monster I'm afraid it is going to want to riot and seek 'revenge'.
Only drive in a car with Obama stickers on it or a designated shooter....preferably both."

Well there you have it.

Please watch your backs because Romney is probably going to win big.

The polls don't reflect that because they have misrepresented the make up of the electorate in some cases actually inflating dem turnout to be even greater than it was in 2008.
As if there is no increase in republican momentum, like the 2010/tea party election was an anomaly instead of a sign of a rising revolt against everything Obama stands for?!?
And as if there is still that attraction to create a historic event, that of being able to elect the first black man to the highest office in the world! Sorry that ship has sailed, you only get to do that once. And in 2008 Obama had no ties to the problems people faced....today he owns a big piece of many of them.
It is just ridiculous to use a 2008 model for weighting the polls when it doesn't represent the electorate as it exists today.

All Romney had to do was show up at that first debate and be confident and capable and he basically surged in the polls. And that surge pretty much held until a hurricane shut off the media for a few days and now he's moving up once again....
Well just showing up like that wouldn't have been enough in 2008....go back to 2008 and take McCain out and plug Romney in and Obama beats him just like he beat McCain!

But in 2010 Obama isn't a beautiful dream....he's a known quantity, he is 4 years of just-as-bad as any other ★■◆● to have the job before him! And he is a conservatives nightmare....put another way, he is a gift to a republican campaign manager. It isn't hard to boost your turnout when turning out means you get to kick someone like Obama out of office!! Yet the polls try to tell you we are still back in 2008?!?!

My best guess is they let it go this way because they want to avoid discouraging their voters resulting in a further loss of turnout and the excuses the race baiters will use in the wake of this 'surprise' election loss will be to continue the narrative that they have already put in place which is the white man stole it from the black man.

Well it looks like I had to go off and explain my thoughts any way...oh well, have fun with it but please watch your backs, get some Obama stickers for your wife and kids cars and protect yourselves.

See ya again sometime
:)

Thanks Will. I appreciate that. Definitely something to keep in mind. If we do experience race riots, I propose we start a thread to keep score. :P All sorts of crude anti-racial racial jokes/slurs come to mind, but let's just say that any son-of-a-★■◆● dumb enough to cause trouble around here because he's worked up about the color of the president will receive a well-deserved reality check. ...I don't suppose selling them as laborers to pay for their mischief would sit well with the rest. :P ;)

Sadly, for someone who declared he would unify the country, This is the first time I can remember that threats of rioting occurring because a person is not elected. While I do not live near any big city, I truly hope the threats to riot are just empty rhetoric.

Oh and it might not be a good idea to put Obama stickers on your car. If there are riots, the backlash rednecks may target the Obama stickers.

geez, what a load of paranoia and hate. Not to worry, though. Real Clear has Obama winning by 68 electoral votes and the Intrade bettors
have Obama at a 69%-31 favoritism. Peace in the streets for y'all. Will, that has to be one of the most insecure things I've ever read, and to
think that you would send it to a daughter in college is frightening. I feel sorry for the girl.

I'll be downtown in Philly tonight. We'll see what happens.

Regardless of the outcome... this has certainly been one of the most polarized times in US politics that I've seen.

I agree with this bit, Snoopy.....sad, actually. I really thought the predictable level of hate and paranoia would die down after 2008, but it seems
that it is still with us. Not pointing fingers any way, as I really don't understand it. I mean, it's no secret here that I support Obama, but I think I do
so for rational reasons. Nonetheless, I don't feel that I, personally, am going to see instant doom if Romney is elected, hell, I survived Bush for
8 years, and his incompetence. I just don't think Romney has the character or is focused on the core long-term issues facing the nation. Either way, I sure hope this nation gets to the point where they pull together for the common good and start to heal the extreme polarization. More to the point, it's time for the general public to b****-slap those who would block commonsense consensus-building for the good of the nation.

To all here--VOTE, it's a precious gift many take for granted!! The fact is that our government will, upon the morrow, pass to the next iteration WITHOUT rioting, coups or the like. Many folks in the world don't get to see that.

Just to help you understand, from the NYT:

“I get why he had to do what he did. It was smart politically. But he’s become the embodiment of the partisanship he once decried,” said The New York Times’s David Brooks, one of the few journalists to strike up a real relationship with Obama during his first term. “The dissonance [between Obama in 2008 and 2012] is so obvious. … Can you think of a president who ran more different campaigns the first and second times? I’ve tried. I can’t.”

And Will, I don't think Romney is going to "win big". It's going to be very close and the side that loses will not be happy about it.

No thanks. I usually vote for a third party candidate, but this year I don't care for any of them either. Whether Romney or Obama wins, it's really all the same to me. You guys talk like there is some huge difference between them. News Flash: Today, everyone loses.

If Obama is re-elected, then we'll have a repeat of the past 4 years. Total deadlock. If Romney wins, the Democrats get payback and will make Romney a 1-term president. More deadlock. In the end, we all lose because we are a country of a55holes.

Kind of makes Grendel's thread "Food for Thought" more relevant, doesn't it? Our Nation is de-evolving into 2 bickering sides, yet again. It's starting to look like we are as divided now as we were during the Civil War. Depressing.

not MY movement, friend. In fact, most members of MoveOn who I know personally are voting for the Green Party(they don't like Obama, and that tells me he is doing something right, when the extreme left AND the extreme right dislike him). And yes, that is hate speech, too.

I just voted for 9 different people, and frankly, the only two for whom I had true enthusiasm to vote FOR(as opposed to disliking the person I voted against) were for State Rep and Attorney General.

The local state representative who's the only person I really have enthusiasm for always runs unopposed, so there's not even much purpose in that race. I remember her being the only one I actually knew about when voting two years ago, seeing her name alone on the ballot, then playing eenie-meenie with the rest of the choices. :P

I vote for everything and I vote in the primaries too. It just so happens that I'm feeling particularly apathetic this time around after spending time here on this forum. Plus, there just simply aren't enough candidates I like at any level of government. And as far as local laws go, I plan in getting the heck out of Texas as soon as possible. I don't belong here. They can keep all their crazy, I'll just leave, haha. Wish I could leave the USA, but that's a lot harder.

Exactly. I think they don't know that, because they have never actually voted and just like talking ★■◆●. You not only vote for local politicians, far more important to your day to day life, but also for your congressmen.

Well we dodge the bullet.

For those of you who doubt there was any danger if Obama had lost after generations of race baiters exploitation of the black Americans I'll leave you to your delusions because the evidence of why, when and how easily black Americans can be stirred to violence is well documented.
The propensity of different groups, broken down by race, economics etc., to commit violent assaults is too well known. I don't feel a need to try to convince anyone that water is wet or that some white people were going to be targeted in the wake of white America kicking the black man out of the White House.
Want to meet the people Im talking about? Start taking evening walks by the waterside in Baltimore MD......lol.....(bring a pocket full of spare mags and practice your reloading drills before you do it please)

(If you are black and this offends you because you aren't one of these dangerous types, on a person to person level, I'm sorry it bothers you, but I'm not talking about all black people so I'm not sorry I'm speaking the truth about an issue that too many people are afraid to address. I'm talking about all the dangerous ones and there are so many that they warrant people outside their subset exercise extreme caution....actually even those within the group are like 20 times more likely to be killed!)

So, now, let me choke down some crow and own my poor reading of the electorate:

I'm surprised Obama could maintain that level of support in light of what has been happening, but then again, I obviously overestimated the 'light' and underestimated the effect of having really bad 'light' keepers.

My post election analysis is boiled down to this:

Give two politicians a billion dollars to spend on being elected.
They both spend it on labeling each other bad and both of them represent a promise of increased wealth to different sub sets of the voters.
One subset has more electoral college votes to be traded for the promised increase of wealth.
So we got the results we were supposed to get, right? The system as we have developed it worked perfectly.

My guy couldn't even get above 1% so it's not like I was looking for a win but 5% sure would open an important door but as long as 100 million fools think they can't live without a government tit to suck on my 5% goal is looking as grim as ever.

How about:

African-American voters were expected to stand by Obama. But Hispanic voters could well have been drawn to the conservatives, given the difficult economic situation in which the US finds itself. But faced with the Republican Party's heavy-handed xenophobia, something Romney cultivated assiduously at least during the primaries, a vast majority of Hispanic Americans cast their votes for the incumbent.

American elections can no longer be won on the strength of white men's votes alone. The Republican Party must recognize that the increasing numbers of immigrants and Americans descended from immigrants not only plan to remain in the country, but they want to be involved in the decision-making process too. Even right-wing hardliner and Fox News television host Bill O'Reilly has acknowledged that "the white establishment is now the minority."

No way, I live south of Austin. And I travel around the southwest for work and have tried Mexican food in every Texas city. It's all bad. And the food in Chicago and Southern California isn't frenchified, it's made by Mexicans. However, it was explained to me that the reason for the difference is taste has almost everything to do what part of Mexico immigrated to Texas cities versus Southern California and Chicago. Makes sense to me I guess.

I had a Latin American friend I worked with many years ago. His wife used to make me a burrito everyday when she made his. Dang I miss that. They were as big around as baseball bats, full of fresh goodness and huge chunks of steak.

wow!, Will was right.......well, sort of:

"Hundreds of students at the University of Mississippi — aka Ole Miss — staged an impromptu demonstration against President Barack Obama’s re-election late Tuesday night, with conflicting reports on the number of people involved.

The Jackson Clarion-Ledger reported that about 200 people gathered in a parking lot outside a freshman dormitory, but witnesses told WMC-TV they estimated the number of protesters was around 300 or 400, with initial Twitter posts calling the gathering a “riot.”

Police broke up the disturbance around midnight on Tuesday, as captured on an amateur video posted on YouTube.

“People are actually running from the cops,” the unidentified woman filming the scene said. “The cops showed up and there was a big old group of people, and they are dispersing out here in front of Kincannon [dormitory]. I’d say there’s about a good 150, two [hundred] people out here. It’s majority white people, so that’s all I got to say about that.”

The student newspaper, The Daily Mississippian, reported that it started as an unspecified argument. Some witnesses reported hearing racial slurs during the ensuing demonstration."

I kinda got that feeling around here. People here would rather vote for anyone than a black person, on that merit alone  Gives you an idea of what I have to deal with I guess.
