Aluminium Pyro
Aluminium Pyro
I am making one! Here's the lower wings, cockpit, part of the engines, and part of the body.
- Cut out paper part
- Use a glue stick to tack the paper onto the (unrolled) can
- Use scissors to cut the can into shape
- Bend along a ruler. Be accurate in the angle of your bend
- Sticky tape the part to whatever you want to glue it to
- Apply glue to join and let set.
I use PVA glue and do not remove the plastic coating. This is plenty strong enough for a display model.
If you want stronger, try an epoxy.
If anyone wants to follow along and make their own, here's my process:- Cut out paper part

- Bend along a ruler. Be accurate in the angle of your bend
- Sticky tape the part to whatever you want to glue it to

Re: Aluminium Pyro
AWESOME! I took some liberties when creating the paper version, are they translating to your metal version? Love it! Any questions dont hesitate to ask....
Re: Aluminium Pyro
There's a few things I've changed/will change. Things like the engines, which you've made complete cone-things I've just made the tops. The loops I'll make separately.
The wings went together fine, but the body seems to be a little off in places. I just guestimated and spent time and made it fit. It seems to be working.
Also, I'm none too accurate in cutting the parts (due to my own inaccuracy, and the low print-res of our printer) so I haven't noticed any flaws in your design yet!
The thing that's got me stuck at the moment is the missiles. I may have to resort to a thinner material, such as thick aluminium foil to make them. I just can't bend the cones at the front right.
I made the wings out of paper, to get a feel for them, and I think they'll be the hardest part, because they are sealed, but do not bend into place (nor are big like the body). I have no way to clamp them while drying. What I'll do there is re-arrange the parts to fit in a single piece (i can visualize how they'll fit into a single sheet) so they can just bend and hold themselves shut while the glue dries.
I'll let you know how it goes.
(Oh, and it's been quite social. I've had a couple mates around to drink the coke! So far I've used three cans, but I've wasted tonnes)

Re: Aluminium Pyro
Wow Merlin,, you still have one of those? awesome!
Scoundrel used to make those right?
Hey Bubba, throw that Pyro 3D model you made several years back on a 3D Printer! (while we're all talking models and stuff)

Re: Aluminium Pyro
There's some serious pyro aluminati post here. Or should I say, aluminati pyro?

Re: Aluminium Pyro
I've done a tad more on the fuselage, but was a little busy this weekend to do anything else.
I'll post some more pics soon.

Re: Aluminium Pyro
Oh you mean this, which has been sitting in waiting for so long, after being distributed to the powers that be??Duper wrote:...Hey Bubba, throw that Pyro 3D model you made several years back on a 3D Printer! (while we're all talking models and stuff)
from the thread that was unsticked 2 years ago
I seem to have a better workout dodging your stupidity than attempting to grasp the weight of your intelligence.
Re: Aluminium Pyro
Yup, that's the one.
Oh, hey. you redid the engine turbines ... or whatever they are. They used to be smaller iirc. That looks nice.
Yeah, throw that puppy on a 3D printer or a CNC and start sellin!
(Nicely done Piggler! )

Re: Aluminium Pyro
Done a tad more. Finished the main sections of the fuselage except for the transom (yeah, it doesn't quite fit properly, but it's good enough for me).
In this image I've test-fitted the lower wings. I'll glue them later today.
Lasers are a pain in the neck. I think I'll just find some solid aluminium cylinder and use my micro lathe. Same for the missiles. Rolling the stuff doesn't work well.
