Weakness invites war...
And this administration is appointing an incompetent narcissist like Chuck Hagel to Defense Secretary.
As for Obama's 'reset' with Russia:

Obama's 'pivot' to Asia working out just as well:
Chinese leaders' repeated calls for the PLA to be ready to plan, fight, and win wars is an ominous sign. (Gordon Chang, The New Diplomat)

Meanwhile, we have an Egypt headed by the Muslim Brotherhood with president Morsi, the (holocaust denier and possible ape or pig according to his own words) finding that he can still count on Obama to arm and fund him...

That's just the beginning. Obama is planning to send more to the brotherhood- along with 1.3 billion dollars in ANNUAL military aid.

yawn, indeed. TB lost me when I got to the description of a twice-decorated Vietnam War vet as an 'incompetent narcissist'.

Re: Weakness invites war...
Slick always gets lost easy. Hagel got hammered in the senate hearings precisely because he was incompetent. One needs only listen to his responses to questions. As to being a decorated Vietnam vet, let me remind you how well that protected McCain when he became front runner in the 2008 election.
Re: Weakness invites war...
I've known several Vietnam vets very well. One, a good friend of mine, got overun, shot in the belly, a bayonet through his hand, then proceeded to kill about 12 Vietnamese with an e-tool. Great guy, but had to go to a psychiatrist for many years after. Not sure how being a vet goes towards being fit for public service. II

I have never had an issue around McCains service to his nation, nor Hegels, nor Kerry's for that matter. Read what you want otherwise, but you didn't hear it from me. TB's description was an insult to a man who deserves no such insult.woodchip wrote:Slick always gets lost easy. Hagel got hammered in the senate hearings precisely because he was incompetent. Re: Weakness invites war...
Being decorated doesn't necessarily mean much. Kerry decorated himself...for wounding himself...then borrowed some other soldiers medals to throw over the Whitehouse fence in a photo op protest, he needed to keep his to impress people with later...
McCain was Naval 'royalty', a third generation grandson and son of Admirals, a legacy guy, he finished so low in his class he never should have made pilot. The first time he flew in combat he lost the craft off the deck and then shortly after he was shot down...
He was a stand up prisoner but does that really make you qualified for anything other than admiration for raw bravery?
Senators are generally narcissistic ego maniacs, either from their childhood or shortly after they are given that nod to be one.

Re: Weakness invites war...
Has anyone seen the exchange between Hagel and McCain? If I didn't know any better, I'd a thought they were sworn enemies about ready to shoot each other. You'd never know that in the past, they were the best of friends. Not anymore I'm guessing. I could see Hagel's teeth grinding and McCain looking so angry he was about ready to have a coronary. Maybe we should give them both dueling pistols and let them settle it like men.

McCain acted like a baby, and a rude one at that.....to think, Hegel was his campaign manager in the 2000 primaries....

Re: Weakness invites war...
Yeah, McCain just came off as a jerk. He's got a stick up his ass because Hagel didn't support the Iraq War "Surge". McCain's the type of warmonger who would throw our troops at any and all world problems like they're expendable fodder that can solve every international incident, while I get the impression that Hagel actually wants to make sure our troops will be effective at their job and don't get mangled or die just to fulfill stupid political machinations. What does that tell you about McCain that he would even throw his longtime friend under the bus?

Re: Weakness invites war...
tells me all I need to know......and yes, I agree with you about McCains posture, which might, in fact, reflect the 'legacy' nature of his military experience which Will laid out above. When your raised with the view of top brass, perhaps one forgets that the folks you are sending into battle are valued by their friends and family, and shouldn't be put in harms way for no good reason(such as Iraq, for a recent example).

So unlike the Dem. sycophants lauding Hillaries work and not asking any questions, when someone does ask tough questions he's a jerk? Perhaps you guys think Oprah should be the one asking question. At least afterward she'll pull out a hanky and have a good cry with everyone. Too bad the newsy's with all the callus's on their knees don't ask and grill Obama the same way as Hagel was questioned.

tough questions are just fine....hell, I'd expect no less for a cabinet hearing. Asking the SAME question ten times, which requires analysis that only history will be able to accurately make, and then acting like a spoiled child when that reality is explained to him, makes McCain an ass.woodchip wrote:So unlike the Dem. sycophants lauding Hillaries work and not asking any questions, when someone does ask tough questions he's a jerk?

So a decorated war vet who spent 5 years in the Hanoi Hillton is a jerk. Funny how things change in a few posts. For what it's worth, McCain earned the right to be a jerk or what ever other disrespectful barb you care to throw his way.

no, I said he 'came off as' a baby, and TC said he 'acted like' a jerk. Neither of us implied that he should be considered such, permanently, with a blanket statement such as TB made about Hegel.woodchip wrote:So a decorated war vet who spent 5 years in the Hanoi Hillton is a jerk.

Re: Weakness invites war...
I'll stand by that.....McCain has lost a lot of respect with me over the past 6 years. He has turned into a bitter old man, which is sad to see. As I said, I always had a level of personal respect for what he went through(although Will made some valid points). Everyone I ever heard from Arizona, whether they supported him or not, said he had a very poor temperment.

Re: Weakness invites war...
Yes! The jackass should know better! He of all people should know the true horrors of war. And yet, he keeps repeatedly voting to send our young people into foolish and deadly fiascoes, especially the ones that were started by and championed under false pretenses by his party and his former President! The 2 same wars he wants to fight ad infinitum, or at least until he thinks we've won, which is probably never. The same 2 wars that keep mutilating a whole generation of veterens. I still don't forgive the idiot Dems that fell for that WMD BS either. Then he has to gall to turn on a old friend because that "friend" doesn't agree with his political views on military issues. The only thing this man has had any principle on was fighting Bush and crew on their favored use of rendition and torture.woodchip wrote:So a decorated war vet who spent 5 years in the Hanoi Hillton is a jerk. What's wrong with Hagel's military record by the way? I don't see any weeny wuss here. He received the Vietnamese Cross of Gallantry, two Purple Hearts, Army Commendation Medal, and the Combat Infantryman Badge (yes, I got it from Wiki) during his stint. He did his share of fighting and paid his dues. He's as brave as McCain. McCain survived the Forrestal fire and being a POW that was wounded and tortured. Nasty and horrible? I can't argue with that. But neither man's war experiences trumps the other in which is the most manly warrior duty.
What he's not is a" friend". A friend sticks with you through thick and thin and defends you to the end. Not Mr. McCain. McCain is a frenemy. With friends like him, you don't need enemies.

Re: Weakness invites war...
It's just as possible that Hagel's military experience has turned him into a pacifist. That's how he comes off to me anyways.

A real friend is someone who:
a)it's okay to fart in front of.
b)you don't mind talking to on the bus for atleast 20 minutes.
c)can borrow $5 and never has to pay it back
d)you'll actually call up do stuff.
Bob: "Hey Jim, you wanna go see a show downtown"
Jim: "Sorry man, I'm broke, and how are we gonna get there."
Bob: "No problem, I'll lend you the 5 bucks and we'll take the bus."
Jim: "Yeah, okay" (loud farting sound)
Bob: "Whoah! That was a good one!

Well, I guess McCain is no longer a human being, but a politician. Friends can agree to disagree. Re: Weakness invites war...
Hagel's definitely a one-worlder. I think that is the reason he is getting so much resistance. That is why he was questioned so heavily about his stand against nukes and the eventual removal of them from the face of the Earth by the Senator from Alabama. He is as gullible and naive as any to actually think that could happen, but he does anyways. So the committee he belongs to, the "zero" or whatever it's called has every intention to try and rid the world of nukes, but there own assessment is that that would be impossible in the current political scheme of the world. Makes sense then that if their ultimate goal is to make the world all warm and fuzzy, they would start by weakening the current structure.

I look forward to a time when all the powerful nations are so well armed that war becomes too dangerous and these elite, power hungry bastards start the era of assassination instead of wars. Much more civilized in my view.flip wrote:Hagel's definitely a one-worlder. I think that is the reason he is getting so much resistance.
