Oh? I wonder what their domain is selling for.

It does kind of suck that GameSpy and 1UP are being shown the door just because the guy that bought the collective package has some weird razor-thin vision he wants to accomplish. Though I guess it also means that PlanetDescent would have gone under either way...

Compared to the age of the internet it's been around quite a while, and somehow I'm not too sure whether we're actually losing much. I can't remember the last time I actually paid attention to GameSpy - its relevance seemed to date back to the time it was taking over gaming websites left, right and center?

well.. Gamespy is owned by EA and since IGN and a couple of other sites are owned by EA, it's not surprising. GS specialized in PC gaming and as we know the industry (up until this last year) was actively trying to squash the market, seeing sites like GS taking a hit (after 15 years) also isn't very surprising.

I thought Gamespy died years ago... No more FilePlanet as well?

All of the planet sites will go down too right,

I seem to have a better workout dodging your stupidity than attempting to grasp the weight of your intelligence.

I thought most of the planet sites have already been shut down or spun off to independence (like planet descent)...

Yeah, GameSpy finally killed off a bunch of the lower-tier Planet sites seemingly without warning a while back, but as far as I know the bigger ones were still up and running. I still need to see if there are any database backups of PD out there. Right now we only have the Internet Archive version, and for some stupid reason it doesn't let you access any forum posts after like 2006 or so, among other things.

Remember that old utility that kinda let you watch a game from the outside kinda in map mode? Wasn't called L-View? or something like that?
