I think it would have a better community wit a better ranking system that gives everyone a fair shot to communicate to all.
And the ranking system should be similar to something like reddit where anyone has a fair shot at making the front page.
edit: I mean, new videos are basically hidden from the public.
edit: channels are also an issue; they make you try to get more subscribers, which becomes the main goal. The system should focus more on just the videos than the account providing them..

Well, to be honest the worst offenders are usually the popular videos, e.g. music videos where there are thousands of responses and most of them are hating on each other or other artists, etc. Videos with smaller audiences (game LPs, mod demo videos or something like that) tend to be a little less silly but sometimes you can get miscreants over.

And yeah, then we get to the whole problem of the "social"/promotional parts of YouTube being fairly nascent. You can't control who posts comments to your video and I don't think you can delete items/block users if you're the owner; you can switch comments off entirely, but that's not necessarily productive if a viewer comes along and has some questions about something. The reddit AMAs I've seen looked pretty clean in comparison - I'm sure they attract jackasses from time to time but thanks to that rating system that people actually seem to use, I don't need to see them.

I have nearly no opinion on the front page; while it's not very useful to me, I can't easily imagine a situation where it would be, since I don't go on the internet and look for videos. Typically, I get to YouTube by following links from other sites (or people).

You're very observant. Here's a big difference in how Youtube and Reddit handle the same troll.

Youtube example:

On youtube, the comment with lots of negative votes gets hidden but his other replies are still visible until they too get too many. all comments mixed as one main thread.
