After Obama it's possible that skin color matters less to black folks, I suppose, but only the most otherwise principled would have passed up on putting a black man in office for some higher government ideal, if you ask me. Race skin color seems to be pretty important to a lot of black people, from what I've seen. Even if it's not what's driving them, it seems to be an ever-present concept. I could be wrong. I haven't spent much time around black Americans anytime recently. I'm not optimistic when it comes to how people treat other people, or how accurately they perceive the reality of the world we live in. It sure seems like anymore when people are devoid of things like "racism", it isn't because they're beyond it, it's just because it's been programmed out and replaced with a sort of general anti-discriminatory outlook (concerning not only skin color, but lifestyle, morality, ...).Kilarin wrote:You may be right, but I hope we are getting over that. I would like to think that if African American's voted for Dr. Carson, it would be because they agreed with his politics. Not because they liked the color of his skin.Woodchip wrote:In reality, unless Carson has some affair with a blond white woman or the press can fabricate one, who do you think the African American population is going to vote for? ....and, an anti-discriminatory outlook is not good thing? In fact, it isn't TREMENDOUS for a society?

Well, from a certain perspective it's an important quality individually, which is where things like this really should be judged. No one should slight another person just for being different, out-of-hand, if they have no basis for disagreement. On the other hand to promote a world-view which refuses to judge the positive or negative influences or origins of religion, morality, sexuality, or culture, based on the belief that social cohesion at the expense of all else is the highest ideal, is ultimately destructive.

It is until you make laws mandating it and thus wind up being discriminatory to other people such as was the case for college enrollment.callmeslick wrote:....and, an anti-discriminatory outlook is not good thing? In fact, it isn't TREMENDOUS for a society?

I love it when nobody is on the same wavelength.
Discrimination is the only thing that keeps you from waking up next to that…thing…and regretting it for the rest of your life.
I love how the guy that preaches subtle nuance can’t get the gist of what ST was saying, and has to get all, indignant and ★■◆●.

actually, that guy asked ST to clarify the subtle nuance of what he meant, because that guy was unclear and bothers to ask questions rather than assume. Also, that guy didn't get the least bit indignant, nor did he even respond to ST's clarification.......yeesh!

Those were rhetorical questions at best, because the answers were quite clear in ST’s post.
You were ignoring what he actually meant, so you could grandstand the moral high ground.

...and, I didn't exactly, so I asked. Now, would I disagree with the assessment that striving for equality and tolerance at any level is dangerous. You bet. Still, I can accept his opinion on the matter as valid, just different than mine.
