New system -
1Gb patriot pc4000ram
gigabyte 8ipe1000 motherboard
p4 2.8ghz
geforcefx 5200
lite on cdrw
Raptor 40gb SATA HD
Problem:
System posts fine, dual channel ram recognized, CDrom and HD recognized. I stick the XP cd (boots fine on other machines) into this machine, and it won't boot. Says the CD has an error.
So I think, screw CD booting, let's try floppy booting. Unfortunately the floppy doesn't even seem to be recognized (not on the list after the post screen, but my HD and cd rom are). I've tried all 4 possible cable configurations with the floppy, and the green light only goes on when in correct configuration. The floppy was pulled from a working system.
I have even taken 'boot from cd' off the list of boot devices, yet it still tries to boot from CD no matter what.
Any suggestions?
Problems with new computer - Boot from CD woes
the BIOS these days usually have the El Torito standard implemented. Check your boot-up sequence in your BIOS to make sure the CDROM is looked at first to boot from. (Typically 'CDROM-C-A')
Now if that's already done there might be a problem with the CDROM drive itself. Try another CDROM or CDRW drive if you have an extra laying around if this is the case.
I could have quoted Krom and used 'x2' but I figured an agreeing statement would work better.
