Their study discovered a link between a man’s upper-body strength and their political views.
Scientists from Aarhus University in Denmark collected data on bicep size, socio-economic status and support for economic redistribution from hundreds in America, Argentina and Denmark.

funny piece, CUDA.......what's interesting as for extant data is that, as I recall from years of exchanges(and no photos or other 'facts'), you and I are similar in body size. That explains our near agreement on politics.......

Plus it is a scientific study, so there must be some truth in it

No, manly men traded away those brains for that extra muscle. They can't have both because all that muscle and extra testosterone causes men to liquify what brains they do have when they beat the crap out of each other all the time.
Manly men didn't create computers and technology, so I rest my case.

I will argue against this vehemently the day I see a substantial fraction of geniuses competing in those manly-men contests, or Mr. Universe lookalikes joining Mensa and working at CERN.tunnelcat wrote:No, manly men traded away those brains for that extra muscle. Ah but that gets right back to the original premise, that the nerdy men needed someone to take care of it for them, much as they want the government to take care of them now

I've known many an architect and engineer, and I can't think of any that were "nerdy."

No I mean, they have good ideas, but are completely dependent on others to see it's production . People who are self-sufficient, meaning brains and brawn, can see a project through to completion.

No one is completely self-sufficient. No one individual is capable of achieving every single thing they can think of doing, and no one individual can think of every single thing they are capable of achieving.flip wrote:No I mean, they have good ideas, but are completely dependent on others to see it's production . That isn't to say that generalisation is a bad thing, though. Both generalisation and specialisation have their usefulness.

No, the nerdy men had the smarts to outwit nature and other humans and build civilizations. They were, and are, the plotters, planners and designers of everything we've ever made. The manly men are the ones who physically build things with their hands or end up as just cannon fodder to throw at those we want to kill for some reason or another.CUDA wrote:Ah but that gets right back to the original premise, that the nerdy men needed someone to take care of it for them, much as they want the government to take care of them now

Yeah I can agree with that. I think the main thing is to try and be as multi-dimensional as possible. No one is completely self-sufficient. No one individual is capable of achieving every single thing they can think of doing, and no one individual can think of every single thing they are capable of achieving.
That isn't to say that generalisation is a bad thing, though. Both generalisation and specialisation have their usefulness.

Ahhh, the classic question…
Would you rather be marooned on a desert island with a bunch of doers or thinkers?
Doers…
Masons
Plumbers
Electricians
Carpenters
Etc…
Thinkers…
Politicians
Bureaucrats
Musicians
Artists
Scientists
Etc…
Choose wisely.

Those four vocations you listed would not exist in their current form without thinkers, and if the supplies needed for their occupations are unavailable, then they aren't much use.Spidey wrote:Would you rather be marooned on a desert island with a bunch of doers or thinkers?
Doers…
Masons
Plumbers
Electricians
Carpenters
Etc…
The first two on this list (by popular example) tend not to think. The last two usually find it difficult, if not impossible, to get anything done without (and, sadly, often enough even with) the first two. Musicians are thinkers and doers.Spidey wrote:Thinkers…

Sound advice in any situation. I'd rather be marooned on a desert island by myself, though. I'm not very sociable in person, and I'm pretty sure I could contrive shelter, gather and prepare food, and defend myself without any help. Provided the necessary materials are available, that is.Spidey wrote:Choose wisely.

That’s total BS, the first example right off of the top of my head is the guy who invented television…he was a farmer…you can’t get any more strong and manly than a farmer.tunnelcat wrote:No, the nerdy men had the smarts to outwit nature and other humans and build civilizations. That also flies in the face of the alpha male, did you know that the big strong types make up a higher percentage of CEO’s than in the general population.
Nerds built civilization....

Re: this explains it
No, our brains helped us design civilization and our muscles helped build that same civilization. The process requires both brain and muscle. Neither alone is as capable. So one is NOT better than the other. And most men are a blend of brains and brawn. In fact, the BEST men have aspects BOTH qualities, not an overload of one trait or the other.Spidey wrote:That’s total BS, the first example right off of the top of my head is the guy who invented television…he was a farmer…you can’t get any more strong and manly than a farmer.tunnelcat wrote:No, the nerdy men had the smarts to outwit nature and other humans and build civilizations. By the way, the big strong types of CEO's tend to be the biggest alpha jerks because all that testosterone's in control and they get a raging turn-on reigning supreme over others.
