We Just Love ya
Remember back when the Egyptians were demonstrating against Mubarak and Obama told him he should step down? Flash forward with huge demonstrations against Egypts newest democratically elected dictator, Obama is amazingly quiet. So with Obama's Cairo speech now long behind him, you might be interested in how the Egyptian masses view our Glorious Leader:

Not that you will see any such pictures in our free and independent press, still the love affair Obama tried to foster in his Cairo speech has faded away like old Che Guevara graffiti painted on cheap adobe walls.

so, attempting to foster good relations with the region was a bad idea......why?

Looks like Obama waited too long and his "Lead from Behind" mode of leadership has now left him with nothing but ill will from the Egyptian people. Looks like the military has sided with the demonstrators. Funny how Obama can be against a leader who was our ally and do nothing when one is against us. Yes slick, "attempt" is OK but as Yoda would say, "Attempt not, Do"

40 years of 'doing' in places where we are viewed suspiciously as foreign meddlers is EXACTLY what Obama(and, might I add, his earliest supporters such as yours truly) wished to see ended, immediately. It's time to let the rest of the world govern themselves, and yes, it gets messy at times. So be it.

You mean giving them several billion in borrowed moneys and military hardware to a group of individuals that are bent on killing us and our allies?callmeslick wrote:so, attempting to foster good relations with the region was a bad idea......why?
Ya missed his point slick. (which doesn't necessarily correlate to my comment above)
Oh and While I'm on that thread of thought HERE's an interesting development with the stuff we were shipping to Syria ..another very stupid idea. Doesn't look like they'll be getting it.

Slick your comments in this thread so far are contradictory and the only way they can be taken as consistant is to recognize you will say anything to maintain support for Obama.

Will, please point out my 'inconsistencies'........active meddling, and speeches aimed toward fostering our views are two different approaches.
Duper, puhlease, this administration has gone out of it's way to avoid the wholesale intervention many on the right demand, and you whine about
some missing aid and supplies?

Are you trying to float the assertion that there has been no active meddling by Obama's administration?!? Lol!!callmeslick wrote:Will, please point out my 'inconsistencies'........active meddling, and speeches aimed toward fostering our views are two different approaches.

on the scale of any administration in recent memory? You're laughing at your own joke, right? Will Robinson wrote:Are you trying to float the assertion that there has been no active meddling by Obama's administration?!? Lol!!
nothing and no one is perfect, but I will stand by the assertion that the foreign policy of the US had to change, and it has moved in some ways in the right direction. Do I have issues with drone usage? Sure. Am I feeling that every move has worked as well as could have been hoped? No. But, still, overall, and Egypt is a fine example, we've walked the tightrope in such a way as to keep the path open to longterm positive outcomes. Interesting view expressed on the radio coming home: We've actually had closer ties between the military leadership in Egypt and the US, than with the Morsi political leadership, whom the Obama camp was justifiably wary of. Further, there are, for the first time in 5 years, scheduled joint military exercises with the two nation's forces scheduled for this coming September. This might be a far more complex scenario than what has been seen to date.Go ahead, roll that rat turd in sugar real good and tell me when you think you've made yourself a gumdrop!! And with the invention of auto correct, it should have been, "there is no try"

You defend him against Woody's criticism by suggesting he's trying to do something in the region...callmeslick wrote:so, attempting to foster good relations with the region was a bad idea......why?
And the list of what you called 'fostering good relations' is not just verbal overtures...supplying tanks, jet fighters....millions upon millions of dollars....officially announcing presidents of states in the region must go....offering support to rebel factions of radical Islamic bent....selling surface to air missiles to islamo-facsists then watching the ambassador and our CIA guys get massacred while he doesn't dare help them due to campaign considerations when their buy-the-missiles-back plan from the bad guys blows up on them...
And then when Woody points out he comes with too little too late to the party you try to defend him by suggesting he is trying to avoid meddling in the area!?!callmeslick wrote:40 years of 'doing' in places where we are viewed suspiciously as foreign meddlers is EXACTLY what Obama(and, might I add, his earliest supporters such as yours truly) wished to see ended, immediately. You must be dizzy by now with all the spinning that guy has you doing on his behalf!
He is meddling just as much as we always have! He just expects everyone to pretend he isn't like you are.

I'm not whining about supplies missing. I find it rather interesting.callmeslick wrote:Duper, puhlease, this administration has gone out of it's way to avoid the wholesale intervention many on the right demand, and you whine about some missing aid and supplies?
And you're QUITE wrong in your assertion: "this administration has gone out of it's way to avoid the wholesale intervention". Maybe I'm not understanding what you mean there, but we've given B-I-L-L-I-O-N-S to the muslim brotherhood. And a better part of the world is hating us for it. Or president has painted us in a VERY bad light abroad thanks to the bedfellows he's chosen.

Re: We Just Love ya
we've NOT given billions to the Brotherhood(as should be blatantly obvious at this point)....we gave the aid, as we have done for two decades-plus, to the MILITARY, a longstanding policy since the peace treaty with Israel. Short of the brief Libya intervention, though, the Obama administration has scaled back pretty far compared to predecessors in it's overt interventionism. We haven't invaded anyplace, forced ouster of anyone save the Libyan case, etc. Do we still, in dozens of ways, intervene in foreign situations? Of course, but the whole attitude has been scaled back from the asinine arrogance of the past, IMO.

Asinine arrogance. Hmm. Why does that sound familiar?
Maybe because it describes...John Kerry? Chuck Hagel? President...Obama?
This administration is basically DEFINED by asinine arrogance.

Re: We Just Love ya
Morsi was elected by more than just the Islamists in Egypt by the way. A generous helping of secularists voted for him too. It's when he gave himself all that unlimited power and the power to legislate without judicial process that people began to realize that he was going down the road to creating a repressive Muslim State, for ALL Egyptians. Any secularists who originally voted for him must have had second thoughts and went: "Oh sh*t, where is this guy going with our country and freedoms"! They should have known that when you vote for a religious extremist, even though he claims he's a moderate, you're eventually going to get his religion forced down your throat.

Egypt. But the lesson about moralists and political power can just as easily be applied here as well.CUDA wrote:TC, are you talking about Egypt or the U.S.Any secularists who originally voted for him must have had second thoughts and went: "Oh sh*t, where is this guy going with our country and freedoms
