RIP Father of the mouse

Post by Tunnelcat »

The father of the mouse, Douglas Engelbart, died yesterday at age 88. What a legacy. He lived just long enough to see touch and gesture begin to make inroads on the use of the ubiquitous mouse. As much as touch and gestures are nice, I still love my Mad Katz Rat mouse with more buttons and features than Engelbart ever imagined. RIP in computer heaven.

Computer heaven is just an alternate dimension where Bill Gates got hit by a truck before the completion of his first OS. :P

You never know. Computing might look a whole hell of a lot different now if ol' Gates hadn't force fed everyone with his idea of computer OS nirvana onto everything PC.

Yeah, this guy was one of the actual visionaries. Computing didn't wind up looking exactly like he'd imagined, but it was a lot closer than anything seen before.
