I'd be hunting them from a tree stand over bait.

I get invited to hunt them by farmers here often. I never went in for trophy type hunting though. I subscribe to the rule that if it has 4 legs you should be planning to eat it and/or wear it or you shouldn't shoot it but the way these guys are asking for help its getting hard to say no. The pigs are a real hardship as well as a danger.
I don't know if I could do the tree stand thing....too easy. Maybe I'm just dumb that way.

Duh, nobody needs an AR-15 to hunt pigs, its just that it'll work for that too. :P But personally I wonder what would happen if you shot a pig with a BMG50 round... Instant pig soup?

Heh, funny story about my first and only hog hunt. We went down to Ocmulgee GA, which is crawling with them. Actually deer hunting, but hogs were fair game too, but as a consequence I only had 3 Sabot slugs in my shotgun. Well, after moving all day, I had finally slowed down a good bit and moved into this tall grass and heard one snort. So, I stopped right where I was at. Hog trails were all through the grass, but standing up you could hardly see 8-10 feet in front of you. Well, those bastids had heard me too and started walking towards me! All I had was about a 1ft square window through that grass and I figured if the one kept walking, he'd pop up in that window. Sure enough He did. I fired and chambered another as quick as I could ;) LOL. He squealed then luckily turned right back around and ran about 35 yards. His breathing is what allowed me to find him and as soon as I laid eyes on the spot where he was, he expired. Ended up dressing out 189 pounds. Well, next day we got home I strung him up and skinned him. LOL! pitiful looking thing when I got done with him, but too much time had expired for the meat to still be good I guess. It was funny and a little scary at the same time, I ended up hitting him about 8 feet away and when that hole turned black I thought he was a little joker.

EDIT: AR15's with high capacity mags are the perfect weapon for packs of wild hogs ;)

I'd rather use my AR with the 300 blackout barrel. The bigger bullet packs a wallop!

Now this one may not be the best one to show someone if you are trying to convince them you "need" an AR type rifle but come on! You gotta love you some Hickok45 shooting video's ;) I've never seen anyone knock a 55 gallon drum over with a regular .223 AR.

Yeah, but like I was saying, 1 shot from a BMG50 should be enough:

You could always use a punt gun. Or a .950 JDJ rifle. Pretty sure either one would do the trick quite nicely.

Hehe, after watching that video, I'd much rather use the .223 or better yet the 300, the BMG would just make too much of a mess! Piggy pink mist! :P

Who knew getting married or a having a vagina could prevent government tyranny :o

probably, gun ownership is but slightly more effective.......maybe even at best tied with the vagina,

note: I posted the above, merely because I found the irony a bit humorous, so expect no serious thoughts added to this thread.

If you're not really adding anything to a dead thread, next time just make a new one.

To be fair to slick, by him putting it here I took it as him sharing an amusing interweb thingy, related to the topic but not really looking for comment/trouble.
Starting a new thread with that, to me anyway, would have come off as nothing but a poke in the eye.

And yet another State finds:

"In a real life demonstration of scholar John Lott's maxim "more guns, less crime," violent crime has dropped in Virginia as gun ownership has increased."

So yeah lets make gun ownership harder.

Nice try slickster. Finding individual cases to support your view has nothing to do with the overall statistics. Keep trying though, shows a mind of high intellectual caliber.

nah, I won't get into the misleading VA stats. As I said, earlier, I just raised this thread because I found something mildly amusing.

Well I guess if nothing else one can always post how the statistics are misleading when they don't fit the talking points.

quote from my local paper in VA:

""It's a quite interesting trend given the current rhetoric about strengthening gun laws and the presumed effect it would have on violent crimes," Baker told the newspaper. "While you can't conclude from this that tougher laws wouldn't reduce crime even more, it really makes you question if making it harder for law-abiding people to buy a gun would have any effect on crime."

But he cautioned against drawing any conclusions that more guns in the hands of Virginians are causing a corresponding drop in gun crime."

of course, that won't stop Woody from doing so.

All that is statistically correct yet at the same time Woody could be relying on the larger, more data rich and longer running collection of results and studies that show his conclusions are quite likely.

So while a Virginia specific conclusion based on their short term data cant prove it....the conclusion he draws is in line with the effects arming law abiding citizens does have on stemming some types of crime.

What would be great is if they would do both. Allow the law abiding who choose to arm themselves to do so and strengthen penalties for criminals convicted of using guns illegally.
I bet that would really help.

I don't know that there is enough fear of repercussions in the gang banger's way of thinking for gun laws to slow them down but certainly disarming a portion of their victim pool isn't going to stop them at all!

Watching their fellow thugs go away to prison and not come back for simply possessing a gun while committing a crime might help and, in my mind, can't hurt.

NYC had a kid shot by a cop a few days ago. The kid was just arrested for attempted murder a few months before this incident!
The suspect, Shaaliver Douse, was believed to be part of a youth gang on East 169th Street called the Nine. He lived at a nearby housing project, and court records showed he had been caught with a gun at least once before; his last brush with the law involved his arrest on a charge of attempted murder, after a rival gang member was shot in May. All this, the police said, at age 14

Here is the whole article, linky
Interesting how the aunt has no problem equating her nephew, the twice failed and now dead wannabe murderer, with Trayvon Martin. Does she completely deny her nephew attempted murder, twice, or does she give the Freudian slip of exposing her perception of Trayvon as being just as guilty of attempting to do grave bodily harm as her nephew did?

On the issue of more or less guns=more or less crime…

On does having more guns in a society make more crime…no, because criminals make crime…not guns…so simple logic puts that one to rest.

Do carrying guns have any affect on crime…certainly seems to work for armored car personnel.

Does having a gun in the home reduce crime…probably for that homeowner…see above.

Now…does more guns equate to less crime overall, my gut feeling is probably no, because criminals will simply prey on the unarmed instead, thus having no overall affect.

But that being said, if a larger number of people are armed, the number of potential victims is reduced, and may have some affect. (again an unknown)

The main problem with the stats of where people have avoided being victims, is very simple…most prevented crimes are never reported. (and I don’t trust polls) So that number has to remain a guess...but my gut tells me there are probably plenty.
