Talon

Post by scottris »

Many, if not all of you are already aware of Talon, perhaps from the Cafe post which generated some lively discussion about the issue of trichording mechanics, but I wanted to make a more official announcement, now that I can post again (thank you Krom, Foil).

For some years now I have been working on a special project. Some of you may remember that I used to make maps for D3. This is rather more ambitious. I've kept it pretty quiet because, well, I honestly didn't know if I could actually complete it... but I have. Well, almost; but close enough to say with certainty that it will be finished and released. And soon.

Image

The project is called Talon, and it is a multiplayer 6DoF flight combat game. It is not Descent, but it is strongly Descent-inspired, and I think it has a lot to offer fans of this genre. Earlier this week I began limited beta testing, and responses have thus far been pretty positive. If you have not already seen it, you can find information and videos at http://www.talongame.com. I am currently seeking beta testers, so if that interests you please let me know.

Make yourself a user on forum.talongame.com, which I see you've already done, and I'll add you to the Beta Testers group, which I have done. So you're all set. Now head over to the Pilot's Lounge Beta Testing forum, if you haven't already. :)

To all the 6DoFers here, you guys/gals really should check this game out.

I was initially skeptical, but of all the 6DoF games out there, this one is easily at or near the top. It's an absolute blast to play, and it needs more testers.

Hey guys! Sorry for the delay. I'm approving you for Beta access, check the Pilot's Lounge for the Beta Testing forum, you'll find further instructions there. I've been busy working on the next Beta version, which should be done this evening. I'd suggest holding off downloading until this new version is done, it has some good improvements, but it's your choice.

Hahah!

This looks promising for sure! I registered to your forums as well and I'd be quite keen to have a look myself - so if you got some space left among the beta testers - that'd be great.

((OT: Very funny coincidence that I am currently hosting your Veridium 6 mission on the Descentforum.NET servers as a BOZ-game. I've not seen anything from you in ages but I guess now I know why :D ))

Thank you everybody for your support and interest in Talon. And special thanks to everyone who has helped me test the game and work out the bugs. At this point I am not seeking additional beta testers, but if you have not yet played the game do not despair, I will be releasing a free Demo very soon, and Early Access sales will begin not long thereafter. :D

Noticed that there was a bit of spawn camping with napalm in that vid. :|

Well, fortunately you can choose your spawn point, and see what's going on there before you spawn; so you have fairly good tools to combat spawn camping.

Also, the video shows gameplay from Capture & Hold mode, where spawn-killing is a valid and necessary tactic when trying to capture a control/spawn point.

If I understand correctly, Talon has not been developed and no one plays it?

Sadly it's dead. It was never advertised correctly but had potential.

Yes, it was.

A working, playable version of Talon was released. It was a blast, and you can play it in singleplayer. It's actually really well done, a blast to play.

What's "dead" is multiplayer. There were a number of people playing it for a few weeks, but not enough to keep the action going online.

We really should start playing it again even if it's technically beta; the current version could pretty much be released as-is.
Still have claws crossed it's not the last version though.
