Ah, the famous DBB insult-joke hybrid. I don't see the joke, but I found the insult funny, so I suppose I broke even. :)

Yeah. Much as I'd like it to be. The discussion here is so wonderful--so heartily critical and unbridled. I wish it *were* a seminary--theology could sure use that, in my eyes.

I know what you mean, though. It isn't supposed to be serious, but properly handled it can be, so what I said is unfair. I still don't think most interesting sex-related topics would work out well unless someone baby-sat them, but I suppose this board does surprise me sometimes. The porn thread turned out a lot better than I expected...

Anybody want some theology or philosophy threads? I've got a good predestination/free will post, as well as an epistemology post kicking around in my head, just waiting for a critical audience... er... yeah, I thought not. ;)

why do you think it's an insult drak?

EDIT: I know you're working on your reply to this Drak, but you must consider I have nowhere near the time I did a year ago. so if you could try to summarize your post a little bit i would appreaciate it, although it's not your style to summarize...

Yeah, and it was a piece of work to try to keep that thing somewhat on-topic half the time. I'm still very glad that you expressed your opinion on the matter and really appreciated all the support I got from almost everyone in trying to steer that ship in the right direction :P

In response to what Sol said, I do detect a hint of what you described occurring on certain touchy subjects but it isn't just isolated to either the right or the left. The reason it seems much louder from the right is obvious by the fact that there are more here that lean that way at this point in time but it would simply be too easy to say that only the right is guilty of it. The left does get their jabs in. It doesn't make it right of course, I think both sides should try to be a little bit more open minded on what the other is trying to say.

That proves difficult sometimes though because the point of views differ so drastically in some areas. It basically becomes a matter of riding out the storm for whatever 'minority' political persuasion there is in each thread. I think the problem stems from both sides wanting to convince the other that their way is right and it just isn't going to happen. Thats when the insults start flying. I'm guilty of it, I'll admit to it.

We're all a bit stubborn on what we believe in. Anyways, there is a new thread topic that I began itching to type up while at work last night / this morning regarding something that happend a day or so ago, maybe more, which peaked my interest. This does indeed constitute as 'The next big thing to fire you up" as Birds put it :)

Unfortunately I need my sleep. I doubt I'll feel any differently about it in the afternoon when I wake up, so you'll have to wait until later if I get a chance to type it all out before I go to work tomorrow evening.

I'm not articulate enough to really get into the debates. I try occasionally, but I just cannot get my mind on paper. Fortunately, Will usually says what I'm thinking. :)

I have a good topic: Income taxes. And why you don't have to pay them! Some of you homework people should direct a little energy in that direction...it's scary what you will find.

I'm kinda like Testi here, there is always someone else who says something for me or said it better than I could.

Well, on that same coin, Bash does opinionate a lot of stuff for me as well. Which is one of the reason I really try to stay away from the political arena. It isn't something that I've been very interested in at all my whole life and I've payed much more attention to it now then ever. Bash seems to cover most of the bases on the key topics much like I probably would, so it really isn't very appealing to be the broken record for me. Though on the topics where my opinions differ I should probably be more vocal but sometimes it just doesn't warrant posting.

The stuff I enjoy debating about are semi-political and more every day stuff that doesn't involve the politics so much. The Iraq stuff drags me back into the political debates mainly because the two have become very passionate bed fellows :P

I got a grin out of this. Not to nitpick, but it's 'bedfellows'. 'Very passionate bed fellows' reminds me of arsenokoites (arseno = man, koites=bed) which is the New Testament word usually translated 'homosexual'.

IMO ;), if an opinion is offered, the issue becomes how well is it justified and is it worth keeping, defending, etc.
Kyouryuu wrote: debate here is littered with snide personal jabs and attacks. It's a hostile environment - that's why I don't care for it anymore.
I agree with you provided you mean attacks come from both sides. (BTW, I apologize if I've been out of line.)

Maybe it's because we're in a campaign season, but lately the debates seem to be just a rehash of what was said by the pundits. I hardly ever watch the news any more.
