The one thing I liked that Reagan did was that he simplified the tax code. I used to fill out my taxes on ONE PAGE back then. Ahhh, the good old days.....

another good idea he followed through on was to treat dividends and other cap gain income as ordinary income. Now, mind you, that cost me more in taxes, but it was the FAIR thing to do.

I'm a centrist, as I keep pointing out. And, overall, I think Reagan was an overrated dick, most of whose positive accomplishments were the ideas of his wife. But, one can always find bright spots......funny, that doesn't seem to work for the Obama-Hate-On crowd, but maybe in the glow of history, they will change their minds.

What's funny is that most "Republicans" wouldn't even vote for him today.

President Reagan knew what a President does. He did a great job of stirring up National Pride in a way that projected strength without violence. His policies, as well as Obama's are most likely the result of their handlers. The real power is never, never the front man.

nor have I, and I would gladly provide links to true, hard left writers. I argue with some of them from time to time, too. Extremes never cut it for me.

Define "actual leftist".

Funny how we have a board full of righties, but no lefties…but still end up with the same old left vs. right arguments all of the time…seems kind of strange…even impossible if there are no lefties around here.

If you wish to claim to be a centrist, wouldn't that require you to take a center right position from time to time?

you remember my position on the mortgage crisis? Just to cite one example...........Also, my foreign policy positions are a great deal different that anyone on the left(a source of much back and forth on progressive board), as are my views of the evils of corporate involvement in our nation.

Actually, since the right wingers have moved even farther to the right since Obama took office, Slick is now a center right centrist at times.

An actual leftist is someone whose position is firmly in the left side of the spectrum. The hard right can argue with anyone to the left of them, which is everyone. Same with the hard left. Every political test I've ever taken puts me a hair's width to the left of center. Ever take one of those "candidate picker" tests that tells you which politician to vote for? I somehow always get republicans chosen for me (which is expected since I'm a registered republican, and terribly embarrassed by it these days -- however I was a registered democrat when I voted for Bush!). I've been meaning to register independent but haven't gotten around to it. But regardless of my position, I don't see any firm, actual left arguments here -- just people who call our corporate shill president a "socialist" which makes no sense at all. One has to wonder if they know the meaning of the word...

and they were considered liberal back then too. Try reading up on their history.
Rockefeller Republican,
"Liberal Republican" redirects here. For the former political party in the United States, see Liberal Republican Party (United States). For the 20th-century Turkish party, see Liberal Republican Party (Turkey)
hence the terminology RINO. republican in name only

oh and TC for slick to have moved to the right would have required the left to move further left. Not the other way around.

Heck, where do I fit in? I'm left of Slick sometimes, to the right at others. That's the problem with a sliding scale based on emotional definitions. The center has no fixed point.

sometimes, being the key word,

the difference is you aren't afraid to all out the left and the President when it's warranted. that's the difference

I've taken test to determine my political leanings and they say I'm left of center...so go figure.

Perhaps. But that's not a conservative or liberal issue, nor is it indicative of a person's position in the political spectrum. Anyone can be narrow minded, especially when they're passionate about what they believe in, no matter what their political leanings. Even me at times.....

the President is definitely not a member of 'the left', and all it would take one to determine that is to actually READ left-wing writers.

Is ignorance that bliss that you need to wallow in it?
Obama was a far-left Democrat according to GovTrack's own analysis of bill sponsorship from Obama’s time serving in the Senate.
The president voting record while senator obama was far left. And I don't care what "YOU" deam as left.
Hell you consider yourself a centrist. And we all know what a joke that is

The only joke is viewing it as a joke. Try talking to some people outside of this circle-jerk and getting a real sense of political perspective.

Past tense. People CHANGE. Oh wait, wasn't that his campaign slogan? He certainly hasn't done anything far left since he was elected, that's for sure.
