He is the last Republican I'd want to see run.

I'm sure there will be more gems to come, Woody. That whole phenomenon really hurt the GOP last time(the virtual clown-car of embarassing candidates), and kept the focus on stupid gaffes instead of any real message. Heaven knows what will emerge as the whole party seems at one another's throat already, and they won't even have Obama-hate as a unifier next time around(although Hillary-Hate might supplant it).woodchip wrote:He is the last Republican I'd want to see run.

nobody hating on Huckabee, but to view him as a viable 2016 candidate? No way. He plays the bass for crying out loud! And, if you didn't think the collection that became the GOP field last time(Gingrich, Bachmann, Santorum, Perry, Cain, et al) wasn't an embarrassing joke for the GOP that killed ANY chance of beating Obama, you don't understand politics.CUDA wrote:WAIT Obama hate. Sure you are..you post an article about what Huckabee might or might not do. And you title it. first seat on the clown car.
thats absloute hate using your own criteria. If a thread was about obama with the same title your first post in it would be your hate-on is showing

um, that refers to my description of what the last Primary field turned into.CUDA wrote:Sure you are..you post an article about what Huckabee might or might not do. And you title it. first seat on the clown car.

While I don't like some of Huckabee's positions I think he is at least a good a speaker as Obama and probably just as electable in that sense. He's quite a charming character. I wouldn't call him a clown. Maybe naive about his chances, but not a clown.
Also, I kind of agree with Cuda a little. Not quite Huckabee hate, but hardly a worthwhile topic of discussion either.

Re: taking the first seat in the Clown Car?
my point, which clearly sailed over all(or most) heads is this: not dissing Huckabee, but commenting on the fact that the 2016 Presidential Primary field is already starting to take shape for the GOP and it isn't even 2014 yet. This is EXACTLY what happened last time, which resulted in the mess that I referred to as the 'virtual clown car', in which their entire message(whether one agrees with it or not) was completely lost by one or another of that crowded field shooting him/herself in the foot with absolute stupidity. At some points it became almost a race to top the previous stupid remark or gaffe. Thus, one would think that there would be behind-the-scenes pressure to in some way limit this long, drawn-out spectacle. But, as the recent near annointment of Christie(who suddenly has some serious bridge issues in Jersey), and now Huckabee floating his candidacy, it looks as if history will, indeed repeat itselt. And, given the Dems are likely to smoothly nominate Hillary, should she wish, this time around, the GOP will face the same problem as before: no coherent message, and a stable candidate who can define them(negatively, of course....this is politics after all) before they even get out of the starting gate for the actual electoral race.vision wrote:While I don't like some of Huckabee's positions I think he is at least a good a speaker as Obama and probably just as electable in that sense. Ok I see the point, but does Christie have an equal from the previous primary? Is he really comparable to any in the last bunch or is he a new element?

Guess who sounded all "make nicey and compromisey" today on all the morning news shows? Paul Ryan. Dollars to donuts he's grooming himself for a run in 2016.

sure, Romney. He represents the exact same people. Romney was their second choice.vision wrote:Ok I see the point, but does Christie have an equal from the previous primary?
seems to have a more positive personality, but starting into the process this early(Time cover, etc) leaves him open to targetting, so we'll see how well he handles it. One month in, he is getting creamed in the local press about a bridge ramp closure on the GWB to New York.Is he really comparable to any in the last bunch or is he a new element?

oh, to quote Sarah Palin, "you betcha". Notice how Ryan has lost the Ayn Rand narrative of late, as well.
