Ants in the pants

Post by MehYam »

So I get to the bottom of the tasty bowl-of-cereal-for-supper, and there's an ant floating there. I wince, and wander back to the counter where I usually leave the cereal box out for convenience's sake. Sure enough, a stream of ants led inside the box, right to the bottom.

MehYam eats ants. Wanted you to hear it from me first.

Jeez, I'm the only vote for "induce vomiting"? That would freak me out to no end, as I'm a bit of an insectophobe :P.

Some people eat bugs and rats, an ant is not likely to kill you.

Ants are a food sourse, as mobi says, they are protien, good for you no doubt. honeyants are sweet (they have big butts full of honey in their nest) and Aboriginal Australians eat them

don't Aboriginal Americans eat ants or termites or anything? termites are supposed to be good tucker especially (i think i was taught to eat em when i was younger, so i had a bunch).

insects are tasty, don't be so prudy TopGun :P

South African honey ants dipped in chocolate are extremely tasty critters, and insects are pure protein.

Millions of critters eat them as well as many humanoids.

That ant was chowing down on the same cereal that you were eating, he would probably tasted the same then, hence you not noticing.

Whilst on my trip down to melbourne I came to realize why there are so little bugs in America. I always thought it had been caused by insecticides. While this may still be a contributing factor it's not the main cause. What is the main cause? simple.. heavy traffic.

Melbourne is about 1200 miles from Brisbane. I swear, the front of the car was literally black with bug splatter. If one car can collect a million bugs in a single day, that doesnt leave much chance for the bugs :P America has easily 100 times the amount of traffic Australia has. To be honest I'm actually amazed I saw any bugs at all in the states.

No vomit inducing here, but I would pass on seconds. I prefer to have my food with my toppings of choice, and that doesn't include insect matter (at least more than the usual). ;)

Actually, like the topic name, i'd stuff em down me pants, leave em there for a half-hour, take em out, put them in a blender and drink the juice.

I'd really fancy some of that right now......

Actually, my current girlfriend eats bugs... intentionally. Orders them from web sites devoted to that sort of thing. She knows about the honey ants and all sorts of edible crawlies, and actually schedules vacations based around what insects are available locally.

Yeck. I just can't stomach the idea (literally). I mean, rationally I know there's nothing bad about it, but I'm kinda with TG on this one. In fact, her bug thing might just be the reason we break up - I think she's been waiting for me to get used to the idea, but I actually grow more revolted by it over time.

I'm not telling her about this ant thing. I don't want to give her side of the argument any more ammo.

I could picture myself eating a bowl full of cooked bugs. Just remember mayhem, for every bug you eat that you see, theres 10 more that you didnt see.

I know, I keep trying to tune out the thought. I hit the salad bar at the local grocery store for lunch today. I probably get a couple bugs a week just doing that.

It's not so much that the bugs are making me squeamish - it's more to do with the fact that there's something in the food that shouldn't be. I'd feel the same way if there were bacon bits in the cereal.

mmmmmm, baconnnn...
