I understand.

In a sense this comes down to a question of (and difference of opinion on) what aspects of "US society" we treasure the most. You obviously rate economic prosperity very highly. I tend to rate autonomy and personal freedom higher than economic prosperity. I suppose at the end of the day the voters make similar judgments, whether they realize it or not.
