The Big D gets a GameSpot feature
The Big D gets a GameSpot feature
Well at least someone out there remembers we exist. Also good to see Retrovirus get a shout-out in there, since it feels like everyone forgot it even exists.

Always good to hear good about D. It is the one and only 6 DOF game.

It's always nice to see some love for Descent every now and then, so kudos to Gamespot for that!

Re: The Big D gets a GameSpot feature
A couple years back when the Sol project was getting started, I emailed something like 8 different gaming sites to let them know what was going on. Looks like Gamespot finally read it.

Re: The Big D gets a GameSpot feature
I like how the focus is on procedurally generated levels. That would be great, though I would still prefer to have well-crafted missions too (we all would). Here is something maybe you guys don't know, but there is another 6dof game that does have a procedurally generated world. I haven't tried it yet, but the game looks fantastic.

And it is planned to be on Steam, not that I have Steam or could even run it on my crappy lappy.

Re: The Big D gets a GameSpot feature
Thanks for the link. Game looks interesting.
Looks like it still has some development to be done.
Do you own the non steam version? Any plans for mp?

They want the Big D.
Re: The Big D gets a GameSpot feature
Hmmm:
"And over the past few months, the Descent games themselves have been arriving on Steam for the first time. Could this be a calculated move to cultivate interest in the genre ahead of a big reveal at E3?"

Re: The Big D gets a GameSpot feature
I know Interplay was interested in making an new one with how they though of being Descent to the Wii but who knows. If enough people show interest, it would be worth it.

Re: The Big D gets a GameSpot feature
They've shown some interest in Sol around the same time the Descent games were coming out on steam... I know more, but I can say nothing.

Sure would be nice to have another game to use my 3D-Pro with again.

oh man, even the Tuscany demo makes me powerfully nauseous. Taking The Big D with a Rift would explode my head, leaving a vomit fountain neck.FROM THE LINK wrote:"...could be even more exciting with the immersive potential of a virtual reality headset like the Oculus Rift or the Sony Morpheus..."

Re: The Big D gets a GameSpot feature
^That's a risk I'd certainly take. A couple of friends and I messed around with a dev kit and unity and made a simple 6DoF environment. It was probably the first time a video game has ever given me motion sickness.
We will not have signatures in the future.
Re: The Big D gets a GameSpot feature
The guys brags about 6 degrees of freedom, but the video shows a very 2D approach to play. He doesn't even bank ! (OK I admit, I only watched the first minute or so..)
Still, bottom line is, love the shout-outs. I dream of getting rich enough one day to single-handedly sponsor a reboot of the series.

eh?
What vid did you almost watch Money?
watch this, it's only about a minute and 1/2:

I hit their forums the other day, and all they pretty much have left is some sticky points with client and net code. They'll be using steam as the main game client but iirc, there will be other options as well.

Dupe, I was talking about the video in Top Gun's first post. Sol Contingency looks sweet, and I look forward to trying it out.
