hey jj (or whoever you are),
i don't think beo is pathetic at all.

he is a smart cookie... that experiences life through living it (at least that's what it seems). he ain't living it on the internet NOT watching the world go by, even.

so leave the kid alone... you hunk of burnin' love, you.

LOL big man on campus. Please, by all means close this tread. All I wanted from the begining was if anyone else was having problems getting into PXO. I have found my answer now. :P

Got poked by the FS2 ppl and checked around a bit. Looks like someone w/ a link to Mark Allender posted this:
We've moved offices recently. I assume that the PXO servers made the move, but I'll have to ask around.

Ultimately, PXO is going to go away. We simply don't have the resource/manpower to deal with it.
A day later:
Initial inquires tell me that the PXO machine didn't make the move -- meaning that the machine got here, but was damaged and inoperable. I don't know if we can get it recovered or not.

It might be a few days before I know fully. Someone is out of the office that I need to talk with.
I'd assume it's gone for good. Actually IMO it would do more damage then good if it ever came back..

Mark Allender. Let me quote posting #18 of this threat for you :P:
Grendel wrote:Well, couple of things. Mark[V] is not working at Volition anymore, he accepted a new job in LA (GL Mark !!). Rory took over PXO responsibility from him, here's the latest scoop:
Rory wrote: PXO is down. We're restructuring our network here right now, and we're
moving offices next week.

At this point it would be a tremendous drain of IT and potentially
programmer resources to get all of the PXO computers to work here. We'll
look at it again after we move.

Sorry :(

PXO was running on NT4.. And no, it's not Rory's fault, he's just the admin. Decisions are made higher up.

Like i said, and like i mailed to Volition and PXO plenty times: My Webserver is running on Windows 2000 Serverand I have a Coldfusion-Server running there (I can handle with those things). My connection is 100 MBit to the internet (it is a dedicated server at Schlund+Partner) and allover: It would be no problem for me to host PXO if I only had it... An IRC-Server is running on that machine aswell since some time.

lol Goob.

Too bad someone can't take a few hours and put some code in to show the games list from Esa in D3's TCP list, and change the MOTD in chat to a link to Gamesurge. The MOTD that's there now is from June 2000...

Be careful what you wish for, guys. If you keep whining about PXO being gone, it just might come back and then we'll be royally screwed.

I agree w/ Suncho here -- I's VERY opposed to leaving PXO gone because it's the only built-in way to connect to chat. But face it, sales on D3 are almost nonexistent and w/ Interplay down it's only a matter of a little time til D3 looses its distributor. True, we are loosing a few guys that finaly would have found PXO, but I think beeing "out in the open" (Gamesurge) gives us at least the opportunity to actively advertise our game of choice -- we don't have to wait for them to find us, we can find them. And the combination mIRC/Kquery is even far superior over the built-in PXO or Glmax/Gate (the only inconvenience is quick game hopping but w/ a fast machine it's neglectible).

So yes, I too think if PXO ever comes back we are screwed. The best solution would be if Volition passed PXO to the community tho, we could remove the login requirement and stay in both worlds that way. An alternative would be to add the default chat/chat user/password to D3 w/ the 1.5 patch, but Kevin is kind of AWOL..

I'm sure you guys don't know me, but I used to babysit PXO over at Volition, among other things. PXO was actually the lowest-priority job function I held :)

There's actually 2 machines involved in PXO. Maybe even 3 - I think the IRC client(s) ran on a different machine than the user and game trackers. Getting them going can be a pain in the butt even for someone who knows how it works. Rory, unfortunately, probably does not. He never dealt with it while I was there. Since Muller is gone too, I'm not sure that anyone at V will even remember how to operate PXO - noone but me and Muller have had to deal with it in such a long time. There's a good reason that is the case, but I don't think it's worth getting into at this point.

So, it probably would be a resource hog right now, since they'd have to refresh themselves on how it works.

Fact is, PXO has been dead for a long time. Sure, it's been up and running, but you may have noticed that noone has paid any real attention to it in a long time. In fact, the last person to pay attention to it was me. And even I hardly spent time on it. Pretty much all I did was make sure it was up and running. As Allender indicated, PXO is going away, and we had been planning that for quite some time, I forget why we didn't actually put the plan into action.

FWIW, management did not decide to end PXO. Mike K was the reason PXO kept going - he was worried there was some legal obligation to Interplay to keep it running. Don't hate me, but I was a big push on ending PXO for, I think, obvious reasons.

Hey, running something like that costs money and I doubt you were getting any from it. I would just push to release PXO to the community and open source it. Along with the D3 source we could totally redo PXO (for D3 and for FS2_Open).

I actually would like to see PXO released to the public - I see no reason not too, if it's just going to close. It would take some programmer work (they'd have to strip out obvious security issues), but probably not a lot. Then again, I'm not too familiar with the PXO source code, so what do I know.

I don't think I have that kind of pull though :)
