My money says it's insurance fraud

Either this woman got what was coming to her for showing off, or she's committing insurance fraud. It seems to be just a little bit too convenient that the place was robbed just two weeks after being well documented and when the alarm and safe happened to be disabled. If I was the insurance adjuster I'd look long and hard at the case before I granted a payment, because it just smells suspicious.

Having worked briefly as a property-claims adjuster out of college, l can tell you that there's no chance this is still with a regular adjuster. Just given the value, this is almost certainly in the hands of a special claims group, and has probably already been referred to a fraud specialist.

(With that said, from my experience, I wouldn't be surprised either way.)

On another note: the lady is seriously delusional to think that she can somehow spin her dysfunctional consumerism into "charity."

Or perhaps it is reasonable to assume that the perpetrator in question knew the victim, knew her habits and picked a time to strike.
